5 Small Games to Bring Camping – Part 1
My wife and I recently bought a pop-up trailer for weekend camping, and there is a really nice table to play games if the weather turns for the worst. Obviously, really big games aren’t going to fit on this small table, but here are five games in my collection that would work really well on our small table! Let’s dive in!
This is the first part of a multi-part series of games you can bring camping! Please enjoy and post your thoughts below!
Trading Card Games
This one might be a bit of a cheat since it’s not a specific game, but more so a type of game. Over the past few months, my family has been having a great time playing Disney Lorcana from Ravensburger and Star Wars Unlimited from Fantasy Flight Games . These games are really compact – all of our decks are put away in small little deck boxes, and should we want to, we can bring our various playmats as well. All of this stuff fits nicely into a low profile tote, or inside a bag that can be stored away.
I’m not 100% sure if we plan to bring Disney Lorcana or Star Wars Unlimited when we go camping in September, but I sorta hope so!
Pixies
We recently reviewed Pixies on the website, and really enjoyed the simple nature of the game. The cards are beautiful and the scoring is very intuitive. Since everyone is only building a 3×3 grid of cards in front of them, it’s very space efficient as well!
Pixies is a game we love playing with our 10 year old son Lochlan, so we will be bringing this with us on our trip. We’ve also recently taken all of our small box games out of their original boxes, and loaded them into photo boxes instead. This is a great space saver and makes bringing games on trips so much easier!
Ticket to Ride – Small Box Games
Again, it feels like I’m cheating here a bit talking about a whole lineup of games. That being said, the small box Ticket to Ride games are the perfect size for a pop-up camper. You could argue that perhaps even full sized Ticket to Ride Europe could probably fit on the camper table, but it would be tight.
These small box games, many that we have reviewed like Ticket to Ride Paris, Ticket to Ride Amsterdam, and Ticket to Ride Berlin, are fantastic little games that last anywhere from 20 – 30 minutes, depending on the player count. They give you all the feels of a full sized Ticket to Ride in a much smaller package. For many, it will leave them wanting more, but when space is a constraint, this is a great game to get to the table.
Sushi Roll
Sushi Roll is a fantastic take on the Sushi Go and Sushi Go Party games. Honestly, any of these three games would be fine to pack for your camping trip, but we really enjoy how Sushi Roll plays. It’s fast paced and is a bit easier to handle as opposed to cards. With all the sets you might be playing, table space with 4 people could get tight with cards. With the dice, it’s a very small footprint, and that’s what we are going for here!
Similo
If you have never played Similo before, you are definitely missing out. Similo is such a simple yet engaging party game where one player gives clues and other players attempt to eliminate pictures until there are only two left. At this point, players must choose the secret card in order to win.
We own a ton of different Similo versions, although Harry Potter Similo is currently our favourite. We also have it on the iPad, which is really great for playing around the fire!
