Scooby-Doo Playmobil Sets

I love generic themed toy playsets as much as the next person, and Playmobil does a number of great themes. Lincoln, my 4 year old, really loves all the Country sets, inclusive of the farms, tractors, mobile homes, and more. But every once in a while, it’s nice to take a licenced theme toy for a spin. Over the past week or so, Lincoln and I have been taking a deep dive into the world of Scooby-Doo Playmobil, and he…

Good Components Key to Board Game Success

Good components are a big part of having a great gaming experience. Fantasy Flight Games is one of the best in creating good components for massive miniatures board games, even if many of those components are made of cardboard. During my time with Journey’s in Middle Earth and Star Wars: Imperial Assault, I’ve realized that Fantasy Flight might be the best component maker in the business, and on a grand scale. Cardboard Tiles Both Journey’s in Middle Earth and ...

First Hours in Imperial Assault are Promising

Recently, Fantasy Flight Games sent over Star Wars: Imperial Assault, one of their older miniatures board games centred in the Star Wars universe. Included in that package from Fantasy Flight was a copy of two of the many expansions: Return to Hoth and Jabba’s Realm. Over the weekend, I began my first long deep dive into the game, playing for about 5 hours in total. After just a few hours, can I recommend it? The best and worst part about…

Construction Fleet Sand Set 2-Pack Review

It might be cold outside, but my youngest son Lincoln has enough Kinetic Sand in his indoor sandbox to play with brand new CAT Construction toys. We recently looked at the Construction Fleet Sand Set 2-Pack ahead of this week’s March break, and Lincoln really enjoyed playing with this toy. The Construction Fleet comes with two CAT trucks to play with, which I really enjoyed. That meant myself or Lochlan could play with Lincoln, and each of us have our…

That Old Wallpaper Impressions

You might have noticed by this point that we don’t post review scores on our board game impressions / reviews. I do this for a specific reason – just because I don’t like a game, doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t like it. To that end, I don’t want a decent game that I personally didn’t enjoy, to get a bad grade just because I didn’t like it. I bring this up because That Old Wallpaper is one of the few…

Licenced Board Games Matter

I have a decade-long history of playing and buying board games, and while I love unique game experiences that create their own world and rules, I like licensed games just as much. Recently, I’ve become infatuated with games that include miniatures, and my first big dive into that gaming genre has been with Lord of the Rings: Journey’s in Middle Earth. To be honest, miniatures games have always intrigued me, but I’ve never pulled the trigger because of the ...

App Based Gameplay – From Terrible to Great

In the past few months, I’ve been playing a little game from Fantasy Flight Games called Lord of the Rings: Journey’s in Middle Earth. As a reviewer, I get a lot of items into the office without having to pay a penny, and while many of them are returned, I can still play them for free for at least a little while. Journey’s in Middle Earth was initially a game I didn’t want to play because it required an iPad…

Agricola 15th Anniversary Big Box – Tale of Two Boxes

One of the very first ‘real’ board games I ever played (and purchased) after Catan was Agricola. I was mesmerized by the pieces, the cards, the boards, and more. It looked like a really great game, and as someone infatuated with farming video games, I thought a farming board game would be a lot of fun. Recently, Asmodee and Lookout Games launched a 15th Anniversary edition of the game in a big box - does it hit like it should? Let’s take a look.
