Holiday Gift Guide: Shooters

Instead of doing a customary awards article on Games Reviews, we have opted to pinpoint a few things you might pick up for yourself or other gamers on your Christmas List. Since awards are very subjective - especially with so many good games in the running - we are pinpointing our favorites from this year, and if the situation calls for it, previous years as well. For this article, we will examine the best Shooters that could find their way under your tree this holiday season.

Kojima Had Options

I fee like the title of this is just stating the obvious. Of course Hideo Kojima had options. He is a developing mastermind who has created some incredible and iconic franchises. The fallout with Konami really is disappointing, but it will be really interesting to see what Kojima does next with Sony. Kojima went into depth with IGN on why he choose to do business with Sony over other companies. Exerts from that interview are below, but you can read the whole interview at IGN.

Attract gamers to come back

We have entered a more mature era of online gaming, when both providers and consumers of the games have expectations that are informed and in step with the new paradigm of computer science and its marvels (namely mobile technologies). It takes more to entice players, for instance, to stick with a particular community, website or game lineage than ever before.

Witcher DLC Visually Impressive

New screenshots for the latest Witcher DLC hit this week, and they are impressive. Gone are the war torn country sides of Novigrad and Velen. This all new area of Toussaint is alive and well. People are happy, the economy is flowing, the countryside is fairly neat - outside of a few monsters of course - and everyone is living a generally happy life. This is odd, especially for those who spent so many hours truding through the muck and blood of the other regions. However, CD Projekt Red has promised that a dark, dirty secret lies below the lands of Toussaint, and that is something I really look forward too!

Nintendo’s Latest Free-to-Start/Play Titles a Big Hit

I'm always skeptical of Free-to-Start and Free-to-Play games, and I should be. Some games really suck you in - Simpson's Tapped Out for myself - and make you really want to spend money. And at times, it is easy to justify a few dollars especially if you are very committed. Nintendo has done an excellent job lately with their free-to-play model, and I hope it continues. For the hardcore fans, I can see the value in spending money, but for those looking for a casual experience, it is a perfect reason to keep whipping that 3DS out day after day.

Lack of a story not a problem for Just Cause 3

If you have played Just Cause 3 already you know the story is nothing to write home about. In fact, the game appears to know where the real fun lies, and therefore, requires you to do a lot of the side missions in order to unlock more parts of the story. The question should be: how can a game like Just Cause 3 - which has been receiving 80+ from most outlets, our included - get so much praise despite a huge story problem?

The Video Game Awards

Last year was the debut of the Video Game Awards, and it is back again this year. And to be honest, I didn't hate it. There was serious contention last year for specific awards - although like this year, the Golden Joysticks really sheds light on favorites - and that made for an entertaining night. The other great thing about these awards? Trailers, reveals, and a look forward to 2016. You won't want to miss it!
