I Told You I Was Sick: A Look At Shadows of Adam for Nintendo Switch
I walk up to a gravestone and it says “I told you I was sick.” Welcome to the world of Shadows of Adam for the Nintendo Switch. The game is currently on sale on the Switch eshop. I bought it, played it some, and now I want to tell you why you should buy it too!
Shadows of Adam isn’t a normal jrpg. Yes, it has turn-based battles, you level up, and can change gear but everything else is so very different from what I expected.
There are no random battles in Shadows of Adam. The player walks around on the world map without being hassled every five seconds. Its the same for dungeons and exploration areas, expect in those places there are enemies standing around that you can’t avoid. Players have to fight these enemies to get past them.
Also Shadows of Adam lets you save anywhere. Well, you can’t save during battle but when you are out and about, on the world map or in dungeons or in towns, just go to the main menu, go to save, and save that thing! Its very handy. I wish all rpgs did this.
And then there’s the game’s dialogue; its not just funny gravestones. The town’s people in the big town that you end up going to have all sorts of weird and funny dialogue. There’s an old woman who thinks you did something to her pills! Another person doesn’t want you to bother them because they’re drinking. Oh and there’s a woman who wants to be kidnapped by pirates. Shadows of Adam is a wonderful game.
However, its not just the out of the oridinary stuff that makes Shadows of Adam so good. The turn-based battle system reminds me a lot of older Final Fantasy games. The battles do start out pretty easy but they get harder as you go. The boss battles are especially tricky and you have to take advantage of the characters skills and the regeneration of AP (which takes the place of MP).
Of course, there’s also the game’s graphics! Shadows of Adam looks like an old school pixalated jrpg, though with some extra detail that makes the game look even better than old rpgs.
So far, the game’s story is interesting and I just have a feeling that a big twist is hiding around the corner. I am no where near the end of this game.
That all said, no game is perfect and there is one bone I have to pick with Shadows of Adam. In the scenes where its night time in the game…the screen gets very dark in handheld mode. I have no idea if that is the same way on the TV since I’ve only played the game in handheld so far. But the screen gets so dark during night scenes that its hard to even tell whats going on sometimes. I think night scenes should’ve been a little lighter. Thats my only negative thing that I have so say about the game at the moment.
Shadows of Adam is just so much fun. I love its dialogue, its battle system, its world, and the ablity to save anywhere! This would be an excellent game to take with me if I actually did take my Switch out of the house. More Switch games, especially rpgs, need to let you save anywhere!
Overall, I think Shadows of Adam is a great game. And its currently on sale for a great price: $10.49. Although, if I’m being honest about it, I actually got the game for $6 something because I had some gold points left! So this game was even more of a deal for me. Buy Shadows of Adam!
Oh and I told you I was sick.
