How to Make Money in Old School RuneScape

Old School RuneScape is an interesting and exciting game on its own and it seems like it has everything: interesting and immersive quests, legendary weapons and sets of armor to really bring out that hero element in you, player versus player combat system that has a lot of depth in it and last, but not least a living, breathing economy that is reflective of the huge community.

We’ll focus on the last bit today, since it can very well define a player’s experience. To be more precise, we’ll focus on how YOU can make money in OSRS so that you have the freedom to enjoy all of the other content!

Making Money in Old School RuneScape for Beginners

Earning gold in OSRS as a beginner can be quite challenging. Gielinor is vast and full of activities and it can be difficult to single out one of them and focus on it. That’s especially true for a complete newbie who has never played the game. Therefore, we decided to guide such a player in the right direction.

Cowhides

Farming cowhides for profit or tanning them for even more profit is one of the classic money makers in OSRS for a beginner. Cows are low level and they’re easy to access. There are two huge cow pens near Lumbridge: one north of the town and another north-east of the town. And if you find them to be too crowded to your liking, you can always travel to Falador, where there’s a spot to farm cows just south of the town.

Dark wizards

Aspiring rangers can opt to kill those pesky Dark Wizards near southern entrance to Varrock.  Dark Wizards are level 7 and 20, so you can choose to kill the level 7 ones using ranged. Due to this being a singe-combat area, you will not be attacked and overwhelmed by multiple wizards. Using magic is OK too, but using ranged weapon and armor is the optimal choice, with melee being the worst choice and not recommended altogether. Making Money in Old School RuneScape for Medium Levels

At medium level the number of options to make money only increase because not only can you make more items, but also access new areas. Besides, if you have already acquired some capital, you can start buying raw materials and selling intermediate or complete items, so you save time while earning more.

Making harralander potions

Making harralander potions requires you to complete the Druidic Ritual quest (which is easier than easy) and have your Herblore skill at level 22. Having around 2M gold in your bank won’t hurt as well. All you have to do is get your hands on harralander and vials of water. Put 14 of both in your inventory and use either one on the other. This will make an unfinished harralander potion which then can be sold on the Grand Exchange for profit. Just make sure that the prices are favorable and don’t go all in without testing it first.

Bones to Bananas

If you ever thought that bones are in some way similar to bananas, then this transmutation should be just for you. The requirement is to have level 15 Magic and Mud Battlestaff for P2P or Water staff for F2P. Unlike the previous method, this one provides experience as well as money. You will need these materials: bones, nature runes and earth runes (F2P only). All you need to do now is cast Bones to Bananas (or calcium to potassium). As with the former method, check whether the prices on the GE are transmute friendly.

Making Money in Old School RuneScape for High Levels

Killing Cave Horrors

Killing Cave Horrors is a relatively easy activity and albeit a bit inconsistent money maker, it is good for mid to high levels and the higher your level is, the faster you’ll be able to kill these creatures. The most noteworthy drop is the black mask, which is worth around 800k gold and is believed to have a 1/512 drop rate.
Requirements:
Slayer 58
Magic 70 or Ranged 50
Defence 70
Magic or ranged gear
Witchwood icon
A light source
Ectophial (optional)
Food (more, if you’re using melee)
Cabin Fever quest
Trouble Brewing minigame teleport. Not mandatory, but will make your runs shorter.
Cave Horrors also drop other valuable items, such as nature runes and herb seeds, however your goal should be to obtain a black mask.

Growing Magic Saplings

Farming in general is a good money maker and should not be scoffed at at any level. You want to start leveling it up as soon as you get your membership. Growing magic saplings is currently the most profitable money making method in OSRS and that is not due to it having low requirements.
Requirements:
Farming 75
Magic 68
Combat 85 (for Dream Mentor quest, to unlock Humidity spell and optimize the process)
Lunar spellbook
350m coins
Steam battlestaff
Gardening trowel
Lunar spellbook
Magic seed
Filled plant pot
Astral rune

Saplings have a buy limit, therefore you want to stock as much as possible before doing this money making method. Humidity spell is not mandatory for it to work, a watering can can also be used, however Humidity will make it a lot faster and convenient.

We hope that you will find these methods useful. We can’t fit ALL OSRS money making methods there are here, so feel free to learn more details. The general rule of thumb is this: the higher your level in any skill is, the better your options to make money. A little patience every day leads to sweet profits later. Also, you will never go wrong with any of the three skills: Woodcutting, Fishing, Mining. While they don’t yield exceptional profits in the beginning, items gained via these skills are always in demand, making all of the three consistent money makers.
