Fantasian Neo Dimension Demo First Thoughts
Last night, Square Enix released a demo of Fantasian Neo Dimension on the Nintendo Switch. We checked it out and here are our first thoughts on the demo.
Fantasian Neo Dimension is a jrpg by Mistwalker, who did Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. Its published by Square Enix. A demo for the game was released last night and I had to check it out. I’m a huge jrpg fan! Here are my thoughts on the demo so far.
In Fantasian, you play as Leo who is traveling with some robots at the start of the demo. He quickly loses his memory and then travels to a completely different place without his robot friends. Lost and without his memory, Leo wants to find out who he is. He meets a friend named Kina and…well that’s about where I am in the story so far.
I really like the story. Leo seems to be some kind of treasure hunter and Kina seems like an interesting character too. She’s a magic user who works for a fortune teller. We get a little bit of backstory of her boss via a cool illustration and voice over. There have been a couple of these flashback “cutscenes” so far and they are pretty neat.
Then there’s the gameplay. At the beginning of the game with the robots and later with Leo and Kina, I got to check out the game’s combat system. I think its pretty cool. I like how its turn-based and even has a turn order listing. The menus are sleek and well designed. Its easy to access the fight option and skills. Combat moves along via brisk pace and I love how you angle attacks in order hit than one enemy. Pretty cool!
The exploration is the game is very well done too. Exploring the environments reminds me of old school Playstation 1 jrpgs.
In fact, Fantasian’s overhead viewpoint is a very old school, almost Final Fantasy 7 camera. The way the camera turns also reminds me of some old school jrpgs. The graphics, meanwhile, are great. The environments are super detailed, including the characters. This is a very good-looking game.
I’m enjoying the Fantasian demo a lot so far. It’s a lot of fun and I’m enjoying the story so far too. Okay, I admit it, I’m hooked on this game and can’t wait to play more of the demo. I haven’t finished it yet and I just know that I’m going to want to play the full game asap.
Have you check out Fantasian? What do you think of it?
