Revisiting My Sims and My Sims Kingdom

On the Nintendo Wii, there was a game called My Sims. It was a cute and fun take on the Sims franchise. It got a sequel called My Sims Kingdom. Now both are available on the Nintendo Switch. We received a review code to check them out and have some thoughts on both.

On the Wii, I played a game called My Sims. It was a cute, fun take on the Sims franchise. I enjoyed it, though it had very long load times and some framerate issues on the Wii. I also checked out My Sims Kingdom, which I didn’t care for as much as the first game. And now both are on the Nintendo Switch and I’ve played them some. Here are my thoughts so far!

Note: the two games are sold together as the “Cozy bundle” but they appear separately on the Switch menu. I do wish they were together in “one” game and you could select which one you wanted to play via a menu. That said, let’s talk about each game.

My Sims

In My Sims you are invited to a small town that needs rebuilding. Your job is to invite Sims to live in the town, build them houses and other items they’ll need, and make the town better in the process.

This game had some loading and framerate issues on the Wii but on the Nintendo Switch, the load times are very short and it doesn’t seem to have any framerate issues. The game runs pretty well so far.

I do have the occasional issue leaving a house; the game still has buttons to click much like if you had a Wii remote. I’m playing the game on a Switch lite, so I’m using buttons. Though you can use the touch screen too and that works a bit better for some things. Building with the touch screen can be a little tricky at times. You have to build in a specific area for houses and items, but the improved load times in this version makes this less of a burden.

Overall, My Sims seems a lot better on the Switch than it was on the Wii. I’ve having a lot of fun revisiting it.

My Sims Kingdom

I never got into My Sims Kingdom on the Wii. I rented it and thought it was ok and don’t think I played it much. Now that its on the Nintendo Switch and I’m reviewing it, I’m giving it more of a chance and so far, I’m addicted to the game!

In My Sims Kingdom, you live in a land ruled by a king and you start as a peasant. You quickly become the Royal Wandolier though and you along with some friends end up going to different islands helping Sims rebuild houses and fix things.

This game is definitely bigger than the first one because you have different islands to visit and more things to do. You can also build things anywhere in this game!

My Sims Kingdom controls better than the first game, with touch screen controls being a bit more responsive and button controls being easier too. The fishing is definitely better in Kingdoms.

My Sims Kingdom seems like the better game between the two and I have no idea why I didn’t get into it back in the day.

I am enjoying playing both games though. I have a lot of nostalgia for My Sims and I’m glad it plays better on the Switch. And I’m so hooked on My Sims Kingdom. Its great to be playing both again!

Stay tuned for my full review of the My Sims Cozy bundle.

A digital code was provided for this review. My Sims Cozy Bundle is available now.
