Ys Origin First Impressions
A long time ago, I played an Ys game on the SNES. I thought it was okay. Then more recently, I played a demo of a recent Ys and thought it was not too good. So I’m not an Ys fan but I am open to the series. One of my favorite youtubers, Happy Console Gamer, is a huge fan and I trust his opinion. And when I was offered a review copy of Ys Origin for Nintendo Switch, I said yes. I wanted to see what it was about. Here are my first impressions of the game!
Ys Origin is an action adventure dungeon crawler. But its not just that. At the moment, the game is also a lot like a bullet hell game. Ys Origin plays very much like an overhead shooter when faced with enemies. The game also plays like the aforementioned dungeon crawler.
There are puzzles to figure out in Ys Origin. And treasure chests to find, people to encounter, and hidden secrets.
I am really liking the game’s mix of shooter and dungeon crawler so far. I have the game on easy mode and it is very easy, well expect for the first big boss I encountered. That thing was pretty hard.
Graphics wise, the game isn’t terrible, but its not the most impressive Switch game either. I think the graphics would’ve easily been at home on the 3DS. I do think the anime opening was very nice.
Overall, I’m enjoying Ys Origin so far. Its not the game I played on the SNES and its not the demo I played on the PS4. Its a totally different kind of Ys. I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Ys Origin is now available on the Nintendo Switch eshop. A digital code was provided for this preview and our upcoming review. Please stay tuned to GamesReviews.com!
