Peely Bone LEGO Review

It’s been a while since I was able to put together an 18+ LEGO set, but the weight has definitely been worth it. The LEGO Group and Epic Game sent over a package that included all the LEGO Fortnite sets currently available, and I knew right away that Peely Bone was the first set I wanted to put together. As someone who is passably interested in Fortnite (at best), I thought this specific set looked amazing, and was hopeful the build was going to be fantastic as well. Is this worth the price of entry, at 129.99 CAD? Let’s take a look!

First things first – this set comes with 1414 pieces, a lot of which are not common and some that are pretty unique to this set, and perhaps a few others. Yes, there is a good amount of Technic LEGO included in this set which definitely isn’t as good when comparing price-for-piece, but there is still a lot of great LEGO pieces here that make the cost of entry really great. Anytime you get a LEGO set where the price-per-piece is under 10 cents I think you are doing pretty good, especially in Canada.

Price-per-piece aside, since that isn’t what’s going to make a LEGO set great, the build of Peely Bone was absolutely amazing. In a recent X post that I put out last night, I said that the LEGO Peely Bone was the second best LEGO set I have ever put together, next to the LEGO Grand Piano. And after finishing the set – which took me a few hours while watching YouTube videos – I stand by that comment. I’ve never put together any of these LEGO standing characters, of which Star Wars seems to be the post popular. But if those sets are anything like this one in terms of how it builds, I’ll be picking up some of those as soon as possible. I’ve built 18+ sets in the past where my 10 year old son Lochlan could have helped me put the set together – this set would have confused him time and time again. That isn’t a knock on LEGO or the instruction manual included with the set. Rather, it’s the highest praise I can possibly give them. This is an intricate LEGO set with unique angles, a good amount of Technic LEGO holding it together, and really cool plating that takes the skeleton of Peely Bone – both his actual skeleton, but also the interior LEGO skeleton you will cover with bricks. There were moments where I was plating the banana peel side of the set and saying, “Is this going to look good and actually work out in the end?” It does, it does.

Honestly, I know enough about Fortnite to make a statement that many other LEGO influencers and reviewers have already made about this set: it is an odd addition to the Fortnite LEGO line. This is not a knock in anyway, because I think it looks REALLY cool all built and setup on my shelf. But there are a ton of other popular Fornite characters that probably would have made more sense as a 14 inch build. If I do have a knock about this set, it’s that it would have been cool to have a Peely Bone mini-figure to display next to the included printed sign piece, sort of like they included with the R2D2 build. There is the Adventure Peely figure that comes with the Fornite Battle Bus, and while I will steal that from the bus we will review soon and put it on the base of this set, it’s not quite the same!Peely Bone

What the LEGO designers have done here though is create a LEGO set that is equally parts fun to build and nice to look at. They did a great job of creating the skinned side of Peely and the skeleton side of Peely, and they flow into each other perfectly. I was worried when looking at the box that this set would look a bit disjointed, but I think the transition from peel to skeleton is really well done. Hats off to the design team on getting this right.

I think the value of this set is outstanding, and if you are even remotely interested in Fortnite, or have kids or friends interested, this might make a great purchase for you or a gift for them. For the size of the set and the fun of the build, the 129.99 is a great price, and one of the better sets I’ve built in a long, long time!
