LEGO DC Super-Villains Review Part 1 of a two-part build
Last week, I shared with you my first impressions of LEGO DC Super-Villains. And then I geeked out on the game a bit. Today, my review build starts! In part one of this two-part build, I will talk about the game’s story, graphics, and gameplay. Is LEGO DC Super-Villains for the Nintendo Switch fun?
I Fought The Law
Lego DC Super-Villain’s story is the best I’ve seen in a Lego game. By focusing on the villains and including your custom character into the mix, the story in this game felt more like an animated movie’s story than a video game; the cutscenes especially feel like part of a movie.
Each level of LEGO DC is not only fun, but makes sense in the whole of the story. Not only that, but the story takes the player to a lot of cool locations! Gotham and Metropolis are just the start of this game’s awesome world(s). Traveler’s Tales did a great job with LEGO DC Super-Villain’s story.
They Built This City
Meanwhile, the game’s graphics, while looking similar to other LEGO games, is without a doubt better than ever. Each area of this game is so very detailed and so are the LEGO characters. You will feel like you are actually exploring LEGO Gotham and Metropolis and the other cool areas of the game. There is so much to see and do in these levels and open worlds. The game looks great on the TV and in handheld mode!
Hit Them With Your Best Shot
The gameplay in LEGO DC Super-Villains is pretty much the same as other LEGO games; smashing and building stuff. There are some new elements, like recruiting henchmen, but overall, if you’ve played other Lego games than you’ll have no problem jumping into this gameplay. Thats not to say that the gameplay isn’t fun, this game is a blast!
LEGO DC is full of secrets, epic fights, and things to unlock. The later levels are especially awesome. Just wait until you get to (spoiler). That was amazing!
My favorite part of the game is the new character customizer. In the other LEGO games, the character creator felt very tacked on. I hardly ever used it. In LEGO DC Super-Villains, the character creator is pretty complex: it lets you change everything from the character’s body, powers, weapons, and more! And its also easy to use. You can create some very cool characters with this creator.
I do, however, wish that there were some more twists to the LEGO gameplay. The new custom character creator is a great addition, but I want to see the developers take even more chances with the LEGO formula. Some interesting things were introduced in this game and I had a lot of fun with it, though I feel like even more could be added. A level creator to go with that character creator would be fantastic!
That said, LEGO DC Super-Villains is a really fun game. It is my favorite LEGO game so far.
Its not perfect though. There are some glitches that hold LEGO DC back from being an excellent game. I’ll talk about those in part 2 of this review build along with the game’s music/sound, my conclusion, and score for the LEGO DC Super-Villains!
