Fire Emblem Warriors Review-in-progress Part 1

When Fire Emblem Warriors for the Switch (and New 3DS) was announced, I wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I didn’t care much for Hyrule Warriors and I’m a huge Legend of Zelda fan, so would I like Fire Emblem in a non-turn-based strategy setting? Thanks to Nintendo and GamesReviews.com, I received a review copy of Fire Emblem Warriors for the Nintendo Switch. I have played it some and want to share with you my initial impressions of the game! What do I think of Fire Emblem Warriors so far?

I have been enjoying Fire Emblem Warriors a lot. I wasn’t sure if I would. I didn’t care much for Hyrule Warriors and FE Warriors does share some things in common with that game, such as the massive amounts of enemies you fight. However, I think the Fire Emblem characters fit much better into this sort of game then the Zelda characters did.

Yes, other Fire Emblem games have always been turn-based strategy games, but there was always the extreme close up of characters fighting after you selected attack. In Warriors, the turn-based strategy is gone and the game focuses on action. The Fire Emblem characters each have their own weapon type and special powers, so there is still a bit of strategy to be had in Fire Emblem Warriors.

The player will be given a lot of things to do in every place they visit and you’ll have to switch between characters and juggle a lot of objectives. It all works very well though and the story that holds it together is pretty good so far.

Fire Emblem Warriors feels like a celebration of the Fire Emblem series, while also providing a very interesting and fun story.  Its always cool to see these characters meet up and if you love the dialogue of previous Fire Emblem games, then you’ll feel right at home here.

When I saw how much the characters in Warriors talked, I knew that this was definitely a Fire Emblem game. Don’t get me wrong, I like dialogue but wow, they can really go on for awhile in Warriors. Thats pretty typical for a Fire Emblem game though. So, while the game is action packed, it still maintains the feel of a Fire Emblem game! I can’t wait to see where the game takes me next.

Tomorrow, i’ll be back for part 2 of my review-in-progress! I will talk about Fire Emblem Warrior’s graphics. How does this game look on the Nintendo Switch?
