Arms The Game Thats The Newest Arrow In Nintendos Quiver

Nintendo’s Newest Console – The Switch

Nintendo is a giant of the gaming world, consistently bringing out better software and hardware to keep its loyal customers coming back for more.  It’s latest offering, the Switch is a combination of a console, and a hand-held device.  It allows players to dock the device onto their TV’s, but also to undock, and use the Switch as a handheld console.

On the coattails of this impressive new invention, comes the game Arms.  One of Nintendo’s newest offerings specifically for the Switch.

Arms By Nintendo Described

Arms is a fighting game which uses extendable arms while in the arena.  It can be compared to boxing in that players hit each other with fists, but as per the name of the game, the arms on each player extend across the stage to reach opponents across the room.

The point of the game is to minimise your opponent’s hit points.  It is set in a 3D fighting arena and the extendable arms mean that players may not necessarily be able to avoid being hit, even when all the way across the arena.  It’s as exciting as playing  at NZ casinos online, but rather different too.

In Arms, you can choose from 10 different fighters – some loveable human and non-human characters.  Each fighter comes with their own unique ability, and 3 Arms weapons available immediately.

For example, Ribbon Girl is able to double jump, Master Mummy can restore his own health as he is guarding and Twintelle can slow her opponent’s punches down while she is charging.  When creating strategies for playing the game, it’s important to focus on which fighter you choose as their special talents can assist in creating specific strategies.

Likewise, the Arms weapons should also be chosen with care.  A few examples of the weapons on offer are Megawatt – which is a large heavy punch that moves slowly, and is useful in blocking other punches.  It can also freeze an enemy for a short amount of time when charged.  Chilla appears to be a normal boxing glove, but offers a speedy attack.

Fighters face off against 10 other opponents to become the winner, although if you prefer a shorter game, there are other options to choose from.

How To Use the Switch To Play

The best way to play Arms is to use the motion controls.  A Joy-Con is gripped in what Nintendo is calling the “thumbs up” stance, and you make punching motions with respective hands to land a punch, make grabbing motions by pushing the Joy-Cons forward, and block by holding them back. To jump, perform a rush attack or dash, you press triggers.

Unlike the its predecessor, the Wii, the Switch only requires subtle jabs and flicks of the wrist in order to make the motion controls work.  This means that players don’t end up exhausted after throwing themselves around the room for half an hour, and are able to play for much longer without getting tired.

Different Player Modes Available

Arms comes with a variety of different player modes from which to choose.  If you prefer playing one on one, or you can team up with a friend while on the same console against other friends in a lobby of your own creation (Arms names that lobby “friends”), or you can play against complete strangers in another lobby called “Party Match” in which players are matched for different modes at the same time.
