What I want in a Nintendo Direct this September

It’s past mid-September and history tells us that Nintendo likes to have Nintendo Direct presentations in this month to prepare fans for Q4 2021 and Q1 2022. We already know some of the big hitters coming out before the holidays: Metroid Dread, Mario Party Allstars, and Pokémon Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond. But what else does Nintendo have planned? And surprise drops for games in October or December? Here are a few titles I hope Nintendo is working on!

Number One: Brand New 3D Donkey Kong

Rumour on the street is that the Mario Odyssey team is currently hard at work on a brand new 3D Donkey Kong adventure. And I hope this is true, as Donkey Kong 64 – as polarizing as it might be – is one of my favourite games of all time! A brand new Donkey Kong, and a rereleased Donkey Kong 64, would be a great treat this holiday. That being said, a game of this magnitude has a Summer 2022 vibe to it.

Number Two: GBA and Nintendo 64 Games

Rumoured for over a month now, fans of Nintendo Switch Online will more than likely get access to GBA and Nintendo 64 games via the Nintendo Switch Online service. I would most definitely be a fan of this – Golden Sun anyone?

Number Three: Mario Kart in Some Fashion

It’s been a long while since a truly new Mario Kart experience has been released, the last being Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. Nintendo knows the second they slap Mario Kart on a box with a new experience inside, they’ll hit that 50+ million units sold mark. But I’d even be happy if they did a Mario Kart Allstars, remaking and brining back old tracks and modes, like Block Fort battle from Mario Kart 64, and the Double Dash mechanic from Mario Golf on the GameCube!

Number Four: More Remakes

Some people hate them, but not me. Bring on remakes of older Nintendo games I cannot get my hands on. Find a way to make A Link Between Worlds work on the Nintendo Switch. Give me Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Let me enjoy a host of other games that I loved to play so many years ago. We know Nintendo isn’t shy about remaking their games, and while some might gripe at the price you end up paying…I’m ok with it!

Number Five: Substantial, Paid Animal Crossing Update

It’s time to expand our islands, or give us a second island to explore. I want to build an Animal Crossing resort, where I can have all the various characters spend time at my place. Add some strategic elements like having specific amenities, etc. It doesn’t need to be this, but a substantial update to bring me back to this title would be amazing, and I’d even drop some serious cheddar depending on the scope of the DLC!

There you have it – 5 things I want to see in the next Nintendo Direct. What about you?
