Paper Mario: Color Splash Leaks Early
A few days ago, Paper Mario: Color Splash was accidentally leaked onto the eShop, and fully available for gamers to download. A lot of people took advantage, and there are hundreds of people doing play throughs already on Twitter.
As of right now, we have no official comment from Nintendo on what they are planning to do about those playing the game early. Understandably, there probably is little they can do as the gaffe was a result of human error on their end, and not a retailer breaking street date.
However, now things could spiral out of control for this title. While some retailers will respect the release date and hold on to their physical copies, I’m not sure about a bunch of independently owned outlets. With the game already available on the eShop – two weeks ahead of the official launch – I wonder how many of them will sell their copies once they arrive. After all, even those who don’t technically like getting games digitally might pick this up in order to play it earlier.
From all indications, the game is outstanding, so Nintendo has little to worry about the leak being detrimental to sales. What is your opinion on this debacle? Would you play it early if you could?
