More Thoughts From Me: An Assassin’s Odyssey
I’ve never been into the Assassin’s Creed series. I tried. I thought I’d really love the Revolutionary War one and I didn’t. So I had no interest in playing any of the recent ones. But I have had extra time lately and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was on gamepass. I liked Immortals Fenyx Rising which was also set in ancient Greece time. Maybe Odyssey would be cool? So I downloaded it from gamepass and..oh my god. This game is awesome!
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is amazing.
When I downloaded this game from gamepass, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t really think I’d like it. I’ve never really got into Assassin’s Creed games. But then I started playing the game and loved it right away.
Why is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey so great?
Well first of all, it starts with the freaking 300! There’s an epic Prologue where we get play a part in the 300s fight. Its just brief but its amazing. Then we got to present day and we have our character that goes into a simulation like we see with most of the Assassin’s Creed games. From there we can pick to play as a guy or a woman in ancient Greece. I picked the woman because she looked cooler.
In fact, she is awesome. She is an amazing warrior with an interesting backstory and a take no prisoner’s attitude. I really like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s story a lot so far, though I like its world even more.
I love Immortals Fenyx Risng. I love the exploration and combat in that game. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is even better than Immortals. Seriously. This game is breathtaking.
The world of Odyssey is huge. The map teases that I’m currently in just a small part of it. I’m on the starting island. And this place is massive. There are so many caves, buildings, ships, and even underwater places to visit. Oh and this world is so lived in. There are villages all over the map. NPCs walk around a lot. It feels like they are just living their lives as you go on an epic adventure! You can easily interfere with their lives too.
While I was riding my horse, I would often turn on the mode that lets the horse take you to the next destination. It’s a great way to get to the next quest place. So the horse was in control and sometimes NPCs would get in the way and…um…my horse would run them down. Oops. Its starting to feel like Grand Theft Greece here!
Its amazing the amount of things you can do in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Yes, there are the main quests but there are tons of sidequests. You can just wandering around off the beaten path and finding caves and places to explore underwater. There are abandoned buildings and ruins too. You have to watch out because there are also restricted areas where bandits hang out and if you go there, you better be ready to be stealthy or get in a fight. I should mention that I suck at stealth! whew.
The combat in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is pretty fun. It is much more brutal than Immortals. So this isn’t a game that kids should be playing. Immortals is certainly more kid friendly. Still there are cool weapons to use in Odyssey. I especially like the bows. The level up and skill system is pretty cool too.
One of my favorite things about this game though is that you can climb anywhere. There is no stamina bar in this game! Climb as long as you want. You can easily reach the top of those epic Greece statues! Though, it has to be said, there is a time limit to staying underwater. I wish there wasn’t. Oh well.
Overall, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is fantastic. I just love how huge the game is and much fun it is to explore and take on sidequests or main quests or just hijack a boat and see where you can go. Amazing.
There is also a Discovery mode that takes out combat and quests and just lets you explore ancient Greece! I’ve only played it a little but it seems pretty neat. You can even get tours to find out more about Greece. I really need to check this mode out more. Can’t wait to play this game more!
What do you think of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey? Are you a fan of this game?
More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I need to play Assassin’s Creed Origins one of these days. Ancient Egypt!
