Why EA Sports Doesn’t Like The Nintendo Switch

If you love to play sports video games like Legacy Edition FIFA 20 or MLB Baseball, you may be curious why you aren’t playing those games on your Switch.

The reason is that those games are not available. Wait. EA doesn’t make those types of games for the Switch?

That’s right and it’s for a reason. EA has chosen not to make games for the switch.

Why the hate for the Switch?

Well, it is strictly financial as most things are. EA, in fact, doesn’t hate the Switch.

The Nintendo Switch is hugely popular and has a lot of very dedicated enthusiasts. There are a lot of reasons to love the Switch which is articulated in an article by Octotube. Check it out here.

Does it mean that Switch players don’t want EA games like the Sims and sport based games?

No. In fact, many Switch players love playing those games and often do. Just on other platforms. As much as 60% of switch users also own an Xbox One. That’s where they play the other EA games that they can’t get on the Switch.

It would take quite a bit of money for them to release games on the Switch. Does it make sense for them to do that since many people are not likely to start playing those games that they already play on other platforms? Probably not.

Another factor is that those games may not play as well as they would on other platforms. People may feel too limited with the features and won’t continue to play them for long. It is very likely that those games will be abandoned and just migrated over to the other platform.

This may not be a permanent mentality over at EA, however.

With the recent release of Outer Worlds on the Nintendo Switch, this may signal a willingness for brands to at least consider opening up to the possibility of adding more of their games there. For a while, Outer Worlds was only available on the usual suspects with the Switch glaringly absent.

Since there seems to be no negative aspects to playing that game on the Switch, it may be the beacon that other developers were looking for when considering if they should make a release on that system or not.

Another big reason that EA probably is not very excited about releasing their games there is that many users play their games offline. This limits the ability for EA to make money off of the micro transactions throughout the online versions.

Lastly, the simple graphics of the current lineup of sports games on the Switch is a big part of the appeal. Games like Super Blood Hockey and Golf Story are popular because of the simplicity to play and the throwback graphics are just plain fun.

Is there room for EA in the Nintendo Switch Universe? There may be in the future but for now, they are decidedly against the idea and don’t have any plans to change that stance.
