Pixel Pals As a Household Item

Having nerdy household items is something my wife and I really enjoy. We have an Infinity Gauntlet oven mitt, a Super Nintendo Entertainment System cartridge as a wooden cutting board, and now, we are using Pixel Pals from Performance Design Products as nightlights in our kids rooms. As a reviewer, I’ve been fortunate enough to get a number of Pixel Pals for review from PDP, but when I like a product, I always like to head to the store and pick up a few extras paid out of my own pocket. Free products are great, yes, but supporting these companies is equally as important.

My Pixel Pal collection stands tall and proud, all in their original boxes – which have been opened for pictures and reviews, but never significantly played with or used. For the longest time, both my kids have begged to have a Pixel Pal of their own. For the longest time, I resisted.

A few months ago, both my sons decided they had a legitimate fear of the dark, which happens with children under 10. We looked around the stores and found numerous night lights, but none of them seemed to fit the décor or feel of the kids rooms. I had a wacky idea: why not head to EB Games and pick up a few Pixel Pals? We can put them in various locations around their rooms, have them light up, and be used as night lights.

Not only did this idea get a thumbs up from the kids, but also was an acceptable solution by my wife. So we went out and picked up a few pixel pals, popped some batteries into them, and have since been using them nightly as great little night lights. Its a great idea that I feel PDP should begin branding – not seriously, but if you do PDP, I want a cut! What uses have you found for Pixel Pals?
