New Donk City is Actually Two Courses in Mario Golf
It might be one location, but when Nintendo released the New Donk City course update for Mario Golf: Super Rush, I for one was shocked to get 36 unique holes of golf, 18 via an Amateur Course and 18 via a Pro Course. While the Amateur Course is a good place for fans to attempt numerous Holes-in-One, the Pro Course will test players in new ways that previous courses have not.
Don’t be deceived – while a Par 3 course might sound easy, the Pro Course is anything but. Par 3 courses are incredibly popular around the world for two reasons – they can be played quickly, and upkeep is cheap and the space needed is relatively small. Nintendo embraces the space philosophy really well, stacking courses from the streets up to the rooftops.
The Amateur Course is straight forward. All straight, all short, all with greens with little-to-no slope. It’s the Pro Course, however, that got me really excited. And frustrated.
It’s freaking hard at times, especially when you need to curve balls around buildings, or in some instances, actually bounce balls OFF buildings in order to land on the green in one shot. It’s pretty crazy. Fortunately for those with little-to-no skill on curving balls, there are only a few of the 18 holes that will require this skill.
The rest challenge players in other ways, such as perfectly placing shots with drivers to far off greens, dropping balls onto small greens, and often times, testing how often you can chip-in from off the green. Affordable home golf simulator can be also nice addition for people who would like to take golf game to next level.
But this new course, along with the inclusion of Toadette as a playable character, as well as a ranked mode, has given Mario Golf: Super Rush a really nice jolt in the arm. This has gotten me back into the game in big ways, and I can’t wait to try out round after round of ranked mode!
