Esports Games to Watch in 2022

Although we’re more than halfway through 2022 now, a lot can change in the final four months of the year. The face of eSports could change – even temporarily – and today we’re going to discuss the games you should be watching.

A new Call of Duty is on the horizon and Overwatch 2 will be released, and it’s going free-to-play too. Will these have any massive impact on the scene? Only time will tell, but no doubt they’ll draw some attention at launch.

How these games perform in 2023 and beyond will be the true test of their impact. Other more mainstay titles will continue to prove their worth too. Whatever happens, there will be plenty of people enjoying online competitive games.

Why are Esports so popular?

Esports as a whole are growing in popularity in other ways too. Esport betting is a big thing to watch too, becoming increasingly popular and a recognised way of enjoying online entertainment. Millions of pounds each year are spent by fans of online gaming, and millions are paid out too. It’s just an extra way of getting involved in the Esports scene, even if you’re not good enough to compete at the top. And let’s face it – who is?

It’s this that makes Esports so popular. Like regular sports, it’s a chance for people to see the best of the best prove themselves. But unlike regular sports, Esports are available at any time. The players – the digital ones anyway – don’t get tired or injured. You can go from one game to another constantly, and see incredible things wherever you look.

This constant exposure is fantastic for fans, but it’s great for players and event organisers too. There’s never a time when someone somewhere won’t want to watch their favourite gaming stream – and they’re able to do it too.

So which games should you watch for the rest of the year?

Overwatch 2 could be a minor upset for a while. The original game’s numbers have been steady, but never on the level of some of the bigger games. A free-to-play resurgence might push that the new levels, and it’ll certainly cause some conversation over the Christmas period. Call of Duty too could recieve a good bump when Modern Warfare 2 comes out. It’s a long-awaited sequel after a lacklustre release last year. It’ll improve attention and no doubt pull some people away from the more perennial Warzone.

But that’s just new games. On top of these, you can also expect continued popularity from DotA 2, League of Legends, Fortnight and Apex. These are all always popular games to watch in the Esports scene.

Fighting games remain popular too, and with games like Street Fighter 6 in the works, you can expect some more attention over the next 12 to 18 months. Games to watch include Tekken, King of Fighters and Street Fighter V.

With so many games to watch, it seems like there aren’t enough hours in the day to see everything you want to see. But as always, the best way to whittle down to what you love is to actually sit and watch the games. Find your favourite games, find your favourite players, and learn to enjoy Esports.
