Curious Expedition 2

In the 19th century, explorers traveled the globe to find treasure, spices, and new lands. What if you were one of those explorers? Its time for a expedition! Curious Expedition 2 for the Nintendo Switch will take you back to the 19th century and put you in a explorers shoes! Is it a good game? Let’s find out!

In Curious Expedition 2, you play as an explorer back in the 19th century. You’ll travel from Paris to various islands to explore, find artifacts, and discover cultures. There are small islands to explore and bigger story based islands. The story is interesting but the gameplay is much more intriguing.

The gameplay in Curious Expedition 2 is a mix of menu, title based, and turn-based based. The player uses menus to get your party ready for a mission, level them up and directs the party through the island with a pointer. There is combat in the game too! Its turn-based and you use dice to determine your moves. Its a pretty good battle system.

Meanwhile, traveling across the island is complicated by the Insanity meter which you have to constantly be aware of. Its like the hunger meter in a game like Harvest Moon but worse. With every move, your insanity will go down. You need eat chocolate or drink wine to keep if going too low or you’re characters will go insane. The game would be a bit better without the meter but it wouldn’t be as challenging. Otherwise, the gameplay is pretty good.

Curious Expedition 2  shares a similar look and feel to a PC like Civilization but it does control well on the Nintendo Switch. The graphics, music, and sound are all really good too.

Curious Expedition 2 won’t be for everyone. If you like Adventure, simulation, and roguelike games, then this will be a game you’ll want to check out. If you are not into those types of games, Curious Expedition 2 is unlikely to change your mind. The gameplay is very good but its can also feel complicated and a bit tough at times. Those who are up to the challenge should sign up for an expedition or two or three or four…today!
