Warcraft III paved the way for the smash hit MMO World of Warcraft and the renowned RTS game Starcraft and quickly established itself as an industry standard for what players could expect from Real-time-strategy (RTS) games. Let’s hope that Blizzard has not lost its touch and still manages to launch a well-rounded and finished product. Not only that, the game also spurred a lot of creativity from the players, who pushed the use-map-settings customization to its maximum by creating tower defenses, custom campaigns and many more different game modes.

Overview of Warcraft III: Reforged
The new reforged version is similar to the recent Starcraft I: Remastered version and will feature the same type of overhaul. The game will feature:
- Campaign
- Custom games and Use-Map-Settings
- World editor
- Match making functionality
- Improved animations, skins, maps, weather etc.
Players who have played the available demo have reported that the game still has the familiar feel of the classic Warcraft III, but that it also feels a bit like Warcraft 4. There is a perfect balance between simplicity and action and it is easy to see what is happening on the screen despite the many different unit models and effects. Unit pathing and the mechanics are also very similar to the original and units occasionally still bump into each other.
Status on the release of Warcraft III: Reforged
Unfortunately, Blizzard has faced several road blocks and the company had to cancel other projects and lay off a big part of their Quality Assurance team during restructures in 2018. Since the announcement of Warcraft III: Reforged in late November 2018, we have heard mostly crickets and little progress on how the game is coming along. The release date of the III1st of December 2019 may very well just be a place holder for the year that Blizzard expected to release the game in. We might have to wait until 2020 before we again can go down the path of nostalgia and dive into the exciting lore and world that Warcraft III brought with it when it was first released. For those of you who are eager to play Warcraft III again, then there is a great option available – when you pre-purchase Warcraft III: Reforged, you also get access to the classic Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and WarcraftIII: The Frozen Throne to make the waiting time pass faster. Alternatively, you could also download Starcraft II and play one of the custom maps where the entire official Blizzard skins for Warcraft: The Frozen Throne has been integrated into the game. That means all of the good old action and familiarity, but with plenty of enhancements. Forget about only managing 12 units at a time!
