New Minecraft Legends Toys from Mattel

The good folks at Mattel were nice enough to send over a few of their new Minecraft Legends toys for the kids to unbox and play with, and while Minecraft might not be my thing, it is definitely theirs! The sets they sent were well loved when they arrived, and the younger two kids are still pulling them out multiple times each week to have their own Minecraft experiences. Let’s take a look!

The Devourer! – 69.99 CAD

Minecraft Legends THE DEVOURER Figure Playset - Picture 1 of 2

“Capture the excitement of Minecraft Legends and devour the Overworld with this huge action figure of the Devourer with vomit attack! Attach the mushroom spore to the Devourer, load in the slime, and get ready to puke!”

There are many things kids bring home that are a parent’s worst nightmare and slime might be one of the worst. Amazing fun for kids. Dreadful for parents. I’ve pulled slime out of clothes, carpet, embedded in cracks in the floor, and more. Still, I know the joy it brings my kids.

The Devourer is a massive toy ready to inflict all kinds of damage on anyone in its path. Standing quite tall, its a toy that requires both hands to operate. Included with the figure is a bag of slime that, when loaded into The Devourer from the top, will then spit out of its mouth and all over unsuspecting prey below. This is all done by squeezing the Mushroom Spore. I was a bit surprised with how well it worked, and my kids have been enjoying this one a lot.

The Portal Guard – 44.99 CAD

Mattel Minecraft Legends Portal Guard Action Figure

“Unite the Overworld against this huge Minecraft Legends Portal Guard Super Boss figure! This action figure is true to its Minecraft Legends videogame counterpart -right down to the slamming fist. Launch an attack with or without the weapon accessory to defeat its foes! Fans will love the large size of this super-bad villain as Minecraft introduces Legends to their world of player-crafted video games! Colors and decorations may vary.”

This is another overly large figure, and while this one lacks the slime the kids love so much – and which I hate, if that hasn’t been made plain already – it’s still an impressive figure that they enjoy. The figure has two attack modes – his left arm can be lifted and will automatically swing back down with a mighty blow.

His right arm has a firing mechanism that when loaded, will send a large spiked arm towards foes dealing a ton of damage. My kids enjoyed lining this one up and taking down the next toys we are going to take a look at, the Fidgit Figures.

Fidget Figures – 14.99 CAD

“These new-for-2023 action figure characters are true to their Minecraft video game counterparts, and each has a unique battle attack move that players can trigger to defeat their foes. Fans will want to collect them all for play and display as Minecraft introduces Legends to their world of player-crafted video games!”

These 3.25” fidget figures are exactly what they are described as – fidget figures. You know those fidget toys that use to be all the rage. Well this is kind of like that, except Minecraft, and playable, and….OK, these are little action figures, and my kids love taking these with them wherever they go. Each one has a unique attack move that my kids can trigger including shooters and arms that smash foes. They are much smaller than the previous toys we looked at, but fit the overall scale of the entire Minecraft Legends lineup of toys. These get the most use in our house because of how easy they are to move around – they’ve even made it into bath time – and while they aren’t as impressive as the big figures, the attractive price point makes them a great toy for Minecraft fans!

Conclusion

I’ve reviewed a ton of toys over the past half decade, and while many of them are definitely for me, this is one of those instances where the toys are really for the kids. I often see folks reviewing toys from an adult perspective, and if I did that here I wouldn’t have much to say. But my kids love these toys, and play with them multiple times per week, both inside and outside. I always attached monetary value to the amount of joy my kids have, and in this situation, everything evens out.
