Lootaku June 2016 Review: Game of Thrones
Lootaku is a premium box, and you will pay a lot more – sometimes almost double – what you might spend on your average subscription box, but two months into our own subscription and we are arguing that the items we are receiving is worth the price of the box. This month – like last months Avengers themed box – is no different, but had the added bonus of being themed around my (current) favorite TV show: Game of Thrones. Read on for a full review of this months box, and why we think it’s the best box we have ever gotten…ever.
Game of Thrones Pillow Sham
My wife and I are huge fans of the this hit HBO show, and have always wanted to purchase a themed throw pillow or two for our couch that shows off our love for the show. These can be hard to find, and outrageously expensive. Taking advantage of the hype, many store do offer these types of items, but you pay a premium. While we don’t get a printed pillow, I do believe Lootaku has given us the next best thing. A pillow sham is the perfect way to show off your love of Game of Thrones!
Unfortunately, I don’t find the material that nice, but I’m going to attempt to wash it to see if that will help with the rough texture. If all this ends up being is a show pillow, that is still fine by me. This item was a fantastic way to start my unboxing!
Filler Items: Hand of the King (Queen), Hodor Door Stop, Queen of Mareen Coin
Every subscription box comes with ‘filler’ items, and this months Lootaku box is no different. In most cases, the filler items in other boxes are generally ‘throw-away-items’ as in, I would never feel bad just pitching them if I was ever de-cluttering. This is not the case with this Lootaku box, and again it speak to why this is a premium subscription box.
The first item is a really cool Hand of the King (or Queen if you are up to date on your Game of Thrones) pin. This is the perfect item for any big Game of Thrones fan as it could serve multiple purposes. Throwing together a costume for a Halloween party? Here is a unique item. Doing a cosplay? Here is a perfect item! Just want to show it off in a small display case or on your shelf? Again, a great item. Like everything in this box, this will easily be appreciated by all Game of Thrones fans.
The same can be said for the Hodor door stop, although this item comes with a chuckle, and a small tear. SPOILERS AHEAD! As you might remember, Hodor came to a very unfortunate end in the cold north protecting Bran as he attempts to get away from the horde of White Walkers. In the show, you see Hodor holding a door shut as Bran gets away, ultimately dying at the hands of the swarming horde. It is a fitting tribute to that great character, I think, to include a Hodor door stop. It’s sad, but it’s a great item!
The final ‘filler’ item is the Queen of Mareen coin. Again, we are talking about an item that only a real Game of Thrones fan will appreciate. Like everything else in this box, if you are not a huge Game of Thrones fan, you will probably see this box as an utter disappointment and waste of money. This coin, however, and everything else in this box is the perfect way to cap the latest Game of Thrones season, at least for myself!
Funko Blind Box
The Funko Game of Thrones Blind Box was probably my least favorite item in this box, but I still really enjoyed it. That speaks volumes for how great this box was overall. My biggest issue with these mini figures is, well, they are mini; since I only have a few of them, they just do not display well in my gaming room. Regardless, my Daenerys Targaryen figure looks pretty cool!
Funko Pop Daenerys Targaryen and Drogon
The best item in this months box was by far the Funko Pop of Daenerys Targaryen and Drogon. This figure is huge, and barely fit inside the Lootaku box (which is big already)! To see close up details of the figure, be sure to check out my unboxing video at the beginning of this article.
The value in this figure is great. On Amazon.com, the figure currently sells for 34.99, so you almost recoup the cost of your box in this figure alone. The detail is outstanding, and it doesn’t feel cheap either. I fully expected the Drogon to be hollowed out plastic, but the dragon is very solid and pretty heavy. I was also concerned about how well the Daenerys figure would sit on the dragon, but my worries were unfounded as, when perched on the dragon, she is very solid.
I have a lot of Funko Pops in my collection at home, but this one instantly became my favorite, for obvious reasons. It’s more valuable than any of my other ones, and it is by far the biggest. This is a big win for Lootaku fans, and for Lootaku as a box – you have outdone yourselves again, keep it up!
