Free Sometimes Means Free, but Not Always

When the word ‘free’ is thrown around in the video games world, there is almost always something else you should be aware of. Sometimes the word free is followed by ‘to-play’, in that you are getting a free-to-play experience that will nickel and dime you down the road. Sometimes we see the words free next to, ‘to-start,’ in that you might get the first few rounds of the game for free, but then you will be required to purchase the remainder of the game. Regardless of how you look at things, free rarely means free!

Enter Slotozilla, the next gambling gaming company to hit your PCs and mobile phones who are offering free slot games .  We previously wrote about how the concept of ‘free’ sells so well:

“Despite the famous saying that “nothing is free,” the truth is…it doesn’t matter whether it’s truly free or not. People enjoy hearing the word free. Free means something you normally would not get, you are getting. Free means bonuses, often times limited, that you might not be able to get the next day. Free means everything. While offering up freebies is something constantly seen in the free-to-play, app based marketplace, more and more AAA companies are looking to offer up freebies for their premium titles, including exclusive preorder DLC. Downloadable Content is likely the easiest way for companies to entice people to purchase their games ahead of launch, and these DLC codes are often for incredibly trivial bonuses.

It’s a marketing technique used by many, most effect the online gaming and gambling sites, to entice people to sign up and play their games, as opposed to playing the games of the competition down the street. As we all work harder for the dollars in our pockets, we want to maximize the money we have. Let’s go back to video games again. If EB Games / Gamestop is going to give me a poster with my preorder, and Walmart is going to give me nothing, who will most people likely give their money to? EB Games / Gamestop of course.”

So back to online casinos. They are so prevalent on the Internet that people are always asking two major questions: is this a scam, and which one is best?

Determining Scams over Legit Sites

It is often hard to determine what is a scam and what is a legit website, but we have a few tips to hopefully help you make the determination – it should be noted that you need to be comfortable that the site you are using is one you feel comfortable with. If something tips you off that something is wrong, click away!

Look at the English

Scam website and scam offer emails often originate outside North America and Europe, which means the use of the English language is sometimes incredibly poor. Legit companies do not send out emails with typos, wrongly used words, or grammatically incorrect sentences. If you are reading through a website, or perusing an email you received, it will become very apparent if something is wrong. Run away as quick as you can, because you are likely going to get scammed!

Does the Site Include Regional Gambling Laws

Legitimate websites will also include details on the jurisdictional gambling laws. Each state within the United States treats online gambling differently, so if a site is claiming to be from your state, check to see if they’ve include the local gambling laws, or at least, a link to the state website for online gambling.

Gambling’s Anonymous Information

While not always required by law, many reputable sites will have gambling addiction services, noting where people can call if they feel they have an addiction to gambling.

Which One Is Best?

This one is much more difficult to answer, and requires a fair amount of due diligence on the part of the player. Answering the question of “which games are best” and “what site is best” can come down to preferences. If one great site doesn’t have the game you want to play, it really doesn’t matter how good they are. If they don’t have what you want, you aren’t going to spend your time there.

So research is the name of the game. Look around at different options, read reviews across the internet. If you are looking at reviews, take in a dozen or more reviews from different sites in different countries. The more you look at something, the higher your chances at finding a great place to play.

Only looking at a few reviews is a really bad idea. Often, websites will attempt to trick people into playing on their site by flooding the Internet with fake reviews. Try to spot the fakes, and see who the legitimate commenters are. It’s difficult, but with practice and time, can be worth it.

If you were to buy a car, you wouldn’t just stop at the first place you visit and make a purchase. Even if they claim to offer you a “one day deal only”, the chances they would offer that deal to you a week later are still really good. It’s the same for finding good and safe places to play. If you stop at the first site you see, you could be very disappointed.

Conclusion

Try to remember that free doesn’t always mean free. There is a famous quote from American poet, Roger W. Hancock. He famously said, “Nothing is ever free, though to you it be. Somewhere, somehow, someone paid.” Important words to remember when scouring the internet for free, games, free offers, and more! There usually is some kind of hook. Remember to look for the hook!
