Summer in Mara First Impressions
A few months ago, I chose to back Summer in Mara on the Nintendo Switch, via Indigogo in Canada. The game promised a farming simulation experience that weaved in quests, story, and more. As a huge fan of Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons, I was excited to give this game a shot. While I wouldn’t really use those two games to compare to this, I would use on other title – Rune Factory. But does Summer in Mara live up to my pre-backing expectations?
You can read a full review of Summer in Mara thanks to our own Daniel Fugate – check it out here!
I will continue to make Summer in Mara posts over the next few weeks as I slowly progress through the story. Early opinions of the title have definitely been mixed, but there seems to be on common take away from every review – with a little bit of love, and a few patches and updates, Summer in Mara could be a big hit on the Nintendo Switch. From what I’m seeing early on, Summer in Mara should be a big hit. I’ve enjoyed exploring my small island, planing carrots and trees, crafting recipes, and getting my boat back into the water and operational. So far, all is good.
But I’ve read the reviews, watched some Let’s Plays, and much more – tedium and repetition is likely to set in, but thankfully I’ve become immune to those types of things because of my long love for Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons. Those titles are repetition to the max, and anyone that wants to say otherwise is kidding themselves. It will be interesting to see how Summer in Mara unfolds, story wise. I’m use to farming simulation titles having little to no story at all, outside of the typical, “You’ve inherited your grandfathers farm!” Right now, I’m not seeing a ton of customization options on my home island, but I could be wrong. I’m guessing I’ll get a chicken coop, a pigsty, and perhaps a few other buildings. But I’m hoping there is much more!
Join me for the ride as I play Summer in Mara over the next few weeks, as we await the much anticipated releases of Story of Season and Paper Mario: The Origami King!
While a review code was provided for our official review, this game play is being done with a code I purchased by backing Summer in Mara when it was on Indigogo.
