Revisiting my Nintendo Direct Perdictions

Prior to E3 2021, I gave three bold predictions about what titles we might see coming to the Nintendo Switch. If you had the chance to read the article, I predicted we would get a brand new Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle title, a brand new Pokémon Let’s Go experience, and one or two GameCube / Wii / Wii U remakes on the Nintendo Switch. Going one for three isn’t bad, but let’s revisit my predictions and think about how stupid they really are!

Prediction Number One: A New Mario + Rabbids Title

I get a gold star for this one, but let’s not pretend I was the only person on the planet who thought this would happen. I actually thought it would happen at last years E3, but happy to have it coming none-the-less. What I am surprised by, however, is the 2022 release date. If you asked me before the announcement, I would have said that it would be a holiday 2021 title. Although we don’t know when in 2022, I hope it’s in Q1 for sure!

Mixing the worlds of Mario Galaxy and Rabbids looks like a good time, and I really cannot wait to take Rabbid Rosalina for a spin! Who else is excited?

Prediction Number Two: A New Pokémon Let’s Go Experience

Looking back on this one, this was pretty stupid. Has Nintendo ever had 3 Pokémon projects on the go at one time? Because if they had announced another Pokémon Let’s Go title around Gold and Silver, it would have made it three (technically 4, potentially 5) Pokémon games releasing within the next six to eight months. That’s crazy, and that’s why this was the stupidest prediction of all time.

Chalk this one up to a want, as opposed to something I actually thought would happen.

Prediction Number Three: More Remakes

This thought wasn’t actually that stupid, now that I think about it. Nintendo is all about remaking old titles and charging us a premium to play them again. In terms of their first party gold mine of titles, I was expecting a few remakes to get announced. I though they might do a deep dive on another 2D Legend of Zelda remake, bring back the Mario and Luigi franchise, and more. But, that gives us hope for the future, I suppose.

What did you think of the Nintendo E3 Direct? Did it live up to what you wanted?
