Pokémon Nintendo Direct – 06/06/2017
Today was the much anticipated Pokémon Direct that was to outline games coming to the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. While there was much talk about what we would potentially see – a rerelease for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Pokémon Stars on Nintendo Switch – what we got was, well, slightly disappointing for some, and pretty exciting for others!
Listen, I was fairly disappointed to not see a new, unique Pokémon title for Nintendo Switch, but let’s be real: were we actually going to get this a week before E3? I’m still really excited about what did get announced, however. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to play Pokken Tournament on the Nintendo Wii U as it was reviewed by one of our other writers, Daniel Fugate. Because of the backlog of work I had to complete, I was never able to snag a copy myself. Having this opportunity on Nintendo Switch really exictes me, because Pokken Tournament Deluxe seems like a game I would really enjoy, as I’m not a fan of traditional fighting games like Street Fighter, Tekken, and the like.
I believe Nintendo actually has made Pokken Tournament a Deluxe release on Nintendo Switch with a bunch of new features and Pokémon. Now, players can engage in 3 v 3 battles, using 5 all new Pokémon to the game:Darkrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk, and popular Pokémon Sun and Moon creature, Decidueye. Litten and Popplio will also appear as new support Pokémon while you fight. THe ability to take Pokken Tournament Deluxe on the go – and use two Joy-Con controllers to play multiplayer – is a huge bonus to this release, meaning the game won’t tie you do your couch!
Also announced was Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. Here is more from The Pokémon Company,
During Pokémon Direct, viewers also saw the first footage from the newest titles in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. Two new Pokémon forms were shown resembling that of the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon have been powered up with new additions to the story and features from Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are scheduled to release worldwide on November 17, 2017—more information about the games will be revealed later this year.
The final announcement from the direct was that Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver would be heading to the Nintendo eShop Virtual Console on 3DS – September 22, 2017, the same day Pokken Tournament Deluxe launches on Nintendo Switch.
