More Thoughts From Me Special Edition: Is Summer Game Fest Over Yet?
Summer Game Fest, the Geoff Keighley pre-E3 event, happened today. I watched it all and now I have some thoughts on it.
I thought that Summer Game Fest would never end.
The Geoff Keighley event lasted a long time and after that was an indie game focused Day of the Devs event. Let’s talk about the main Summer Game Fest event first.
Geoff Keighley is the host of the Game of Awards an also the host of Summer Game Fest. He’s not a bad host at all. He usually gets out of the way and lets the game trailers roll.
Expect when he keeps mentioning Amazon Prime gaming. Then he is annoying. Oh well.
As for the rest of the event, it started off really well with Tiny Tina’s Wonderland, Metal Slug Tactics, and Death Stranding Director’s Cut. And then…
…it started focusing way too much on multiplayer games. It was especially stuck on free-to-play multiplayer games. It just kept going on and on and on and on…
Eventually though we got a few more interesting games. I was especially excited about a new Tales of Arise trailer. That game looks amazing.
I also liked the look of Monster Hunter Stories 2 and Evil Dead the Game.
Finally the show ended with a shocking reveal…Elden Ring!
Okay it wasn’t shocking. Everyone was expecting Elden Ring to show up. Personally I thought it looked just okay but I saw a lot of excitement for the game on twitter.
Overall, the main Summer Game Fest event was just okay. It felt like it would never end though.
Though just when we thought it was over, the Day of the Devs part of the event started. This event was focused on indie games.
A wide range of games were shown. From Axiom Verge 2 to simulation games like Wandering Village, there were all types of games for all types of people.
Some of the games looked good, others like the rhythm games bored me. This event, like Summer Game Fest, felt like it would never end.
The highlights of Day of the Devs, for me, were Wandering Village and Moonglow Bay. The whole thing ended on Oxenfree 2 music. Which okay, technically thats still going on as I write this. For my sanity, I’m going to turn it off now.
sigh. I was super disappointed that the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game was not shown in either Summer Game Fest or Day of the Devs. That was the only game I was really hoping for. The rest of my hopes and dreams are left with Nintendo and Square Enix!
Whew. Summer Game Fest is finally over! I’m free! I’m freeeeee!
Next: Ubisoft on Saturday! Please let it be good.
