More Thoughts From Me #228: RIP E3? Hello, Other (Digital) Events
E3 is dead, long live E3. Well, okay, E3 is dead this year. We don’t know if it’ll be back next year or not. What we do know is that some companies still want to show off their games. And so we got digital events this month. I want to talk about a couple of them!
There was no E3 this year but we did get several digital only events like Summer Games Fest, whatever IGN was doing, and last week the New Game+ Expo! I didn’t watch the IGN event, but I did watch Summer Games Fest and New Game+ Expo. What did I think of them?
Well, neither of them were E3. The big companies, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo were not part of them (aside: well Sony did have a rep at the Summer Fest event but no exclusive games). And neither of the events had as much hype or excitement as E3. In other words, bring E3 back next year! Please! Even if its just a digital only event.
That said, there were some cool games in the Summer Games Fest video and in the New Game+ Expo!
In Summer Games Fest, we got the reveal of a brand new Crash Bandicoot game called Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time! And it looked awesome. For some reason its not coming to the Nintendo Switch, but still it looked really cool. Lost in Random was shown and it is coming to Switch! Thanks EA.
The Summer Games Fest also had the return of ALF. Not a game but it was cool to see ALF again.
There were other good games during the Summer Games Fest but I forget what they were…
And then theres the New Game+ Expo which was way more Japanese video game focused. Good looking games games like Trails of Cold Steel 4, Ys 8, and my favorite…BLOODSTAINED: CURSE OF THE MOON 2 were shown! All three of them are coming to Switch. Yeah, I’m especially excited about Curse of the Moon 2.
When they showed the new Bloodstained, I lost my mind. This isn’t the regular 2D/3D Bloodstained. No this is the much cooler 2D Bloodstained. Think Castlevania in its prime.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is such a good game. And the second one looks even better!
Oh and its coming out on July 10th. That wasn’t announced during the New Game+ Expo. We got that announcement after, in another video that showed even more coolness for this game.
I am seriously more excited for Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 than Crash or any of the other games showed at either of these events. Yeah, there were a bunch of cool games shown but man, Bloodstained!
Anyway, both of these events were not bad. We did get Crash and some very cool looking indie games out of the Summer Fest event. And then got Bloodstained and some cool Japanese games out of the other.
Still. I want E3 back.
What did you think of these two events? Are you looking forward to Crash and Bloodstained?
Next week: A look back at the Paper Mario series: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
