Evolution of Rocket League Decals

Rocket League decals have encountered significant evolutions and upgrades since the game was released in 2015. Decals offer players a customization option to decorate their vehicle.

The Day One Decals

Decals have been featured in the game since the very beginning. These decals did not require players to make an extra payment:

  • Flames
  • Stars
  • Lightning
  • Skulls
  • Stripes
  • Wings

Despite these items falling out of fashion, at the time, they were admired as an awesome customization option for your car.

Collaborative Decals

Collaborative decals are when Pysonix partners with a brand to bring decals that are iconic and recognizable into the game. These are some of the partnered examples:

  • Fast and Furious
  • Jurassic Park
  • McLaren
  • Formula 1
  • BMW
  • Plus, many more

Most of these licenced decals require an additional payment or challenges to be completed to acquire them to your garage collection.

Painted Decals

In June 2016, Pysonix introduced the ability to obtain painted variants to some of the decals already in the game. Painted decals are the same rarity as the original item.

Titanium white and black are generally the more popular paints. This means they often cost more if acquired through a player-to-player trade. Grey and burnt sienna are typically the least common paints, resulting in these colors having a cheaper trading value.

Black Market Decals

In September 2016, Pysonix hit the jackpot with RL decals. They introduced their very first black market decal, the Heatwave. Black market decals are an animated design which gained popularity extremely quickly.

The introduction of the Heatwave opened the door for more black market decals as players became drawn to their visual appearance and rarity. Some black market decals that were released shortly after the Heatwave include the Hexed, Tora.

As the years have progressed, Pysonix have released black market decals with cooler designs such as the Stride Tide, Stipple Gait, Interstellar, and over 30 other BM decals. Visit Pro MB Gaming to see more information about all of these black market decals.

Special Event Decals

Unique decals are always introduced for special events relevant to real-world celebrations such as Christmas, Halloween, and Easter. Items rewarded in these events are earned through a level reward scheme where the more you play the game, the faster you progress through the levels.

Player Designed Decals

In recent years, Pysonix has ran competitions for players to submit their own custom decal design. The selected winning designs are implemented into the game, giving players an opportunity to showcase their creativity.

Esports Decals

Pysonix has released team-specific decals for all professional Rocket League teams. Each team has a home and away designed decal, allowing players to show support for their favorite team. These esport decals are available on the core vehicles such as the Dominus, Fennec, and Octane.

Overall, the evolution of Rocket League decals has experienced a continuous expansion and improvement of customization options for players. From the game’s initial release of the plain, standard decals to the transition of black market decals, Rocket League now offers a diverse variety of unique customization options to enhance the visual appearance of a player’s car.
