Assassins Creed: Origins

Egypt has always been an intriguing environment, so I’m glad to see one of my favourite franchises heading to the deserts in Africa. From the gameplay, it looks like we will be treated to a diverse open world with plenty to explore. But the real question with this series is always this: will Ubisoft be able to move away from the traditional game play to create a unique, Assassins Creed experience?

As stated by Ubisoft during the Xbox Briefing, Egypt is the birthplace of the Assassins, so it will be the origin story for the franchise, properly named Assassins Creed: Origins. Because of how far back in time they are going, Ubisoft noted they had to change a lot from the traditional formula.

Heads up, it looks great in 4K!

Ubisoft has stated that Assassins Creed: Origins will be using a system that mirrors and RPG, at least more so than in the past. I’ve always though a more RPG feel to Assassins Creed would be great, so I’m looking forward to seeing it now!

In a gameplay reveal, we are treated to moments of the campaign where the main character returns to his home town. He has the ability to use an eagle to fly around, scoping out what’s ahead and tagging enemy units and specific targets. It’s a sight change from what has been used in the past for this, which is nice to see. Ubisoft is making Origins as unique as possible.

Of course, tried and tested Assassins Creed stealth moves are still here, with takedowns and throwable weapons. But when we see the protagonist bend down to pick up a bow from the ground, that all armour and weapons appear to have a level attached to them. This is likely the RPG elements Ubisoft mentioned in the opening to the reveal.

There will likely be more about Origins on the show floor, so stayed tuned to GamesReviews.com!
