The Elder Scrolls Blades First Impressions
The Elder Scrolls Skyrim has been on the Nintendo Switch for a little while now. Its one of the best third party Nintendo Switch games too. So you may be wondering…where are the other Elder Scrolls games on Switch? None of the other regular ones have been brought to the system yet but yesterday a spinoff mobile game called The Elder Scrolls Blades arrived on the Switch eshop! Is the game any good? Here are my first impressions of it.
The Elder Scrolls Blades is a free-to-download and play spinoff in the Elder Scrolls series. It is very different from the normal Elder Scrolls games.
Yes, Elder Scrolls Blades is a first person game like the other Elder Scrolls games, however the battle system and the way you travel the world are different from other games in the series.
In Blades, you can use motion controls or if playing in portable mode, press and hold the ZR button and then let go to attack the enemy. The enemy can block you, so you have to time your hits for when the enemy isn’t so on guard. This bit of strategy makes the battle system a bit more interesting than it would’ve been if it was just a normal attack system.
Meanwhile, traveling to quests is done via menus. You can explore the town and explore dungeons but Blades isn’t an open world game like Skyrim. Thats a shame but of course this is a free game, so what do you expect? Exploring dungeons can be fun though.
Its pretty cool that Blades has a level up system and you can learn to use spells and other abilities too. You also have an inventory and can collect new weapons and things to use to rebuild your town.
Elder Scrolls Blades also looks like it has other modes you can unlock and it’ll be interesting to see if the game grows and changes.
As for the game’s graphics, they are…not very good. Elder Scrolls Blades looks like an early Xbox or PS2 game. The game isn’t awful looking but its nothing compared to the amazing graphics of Skyrim.
Also the game seems to have some error problems. I encountered a problem early on when trying to name my character. I kept seeing an error and being kicked out of the game. Finally I got a different name and the game worked. Well, for now anyway.
Elder Scrolls Blades isn’t bad for a free game but its too bad thats its world isn’t more open and its graphics are nowhere what they should be for the Switch. I can’t say I’m very impressed by Elder Scrolls Blades but I will probably continue playing it for a little more.
Hopefully I’ll stay interested in Blades long enough to see what else it contains.
Have you tried Elder Scrolls Blades? If so what do you think of it? Let us know in the comments!
