LEGO Brick Headz – The Hulk

About a week ago, we reviewed our first ever LEGO Brick Headz set here on GamesReviews.com and gave it a very favourable review. Not only does the figure look good on display, but the box artwork also adds to the aesthetic of having these sets on my desk at work. I get many compliments about them, and find myself referring people more and more often to the nearest toy store to grab their own. Like the Iron Man set, Hulk also comes with many hard-to-find pieces, making the 9.99 investment incredibly worth it.

Much of what was said in my Iron Man review will translate to this build of the Hulk as well, so you may see some repetition. However, I think that this speaks to the consistency of each and every Brick Headz build. When I pick up more of these sets, I will know exactly what to expect when I put them together. Having that knowledge is incredibly valuable, especially when I contemplate the hard-to-find bricks I might need to expand my custom LEGO City.

The Build

Like the Iron Man set, the Hulk was really fun and really easy to put together, and although the box stipulates that this is a product for an older adult audience – probably based both on the subject matter and the fact that this is a display-only set, rather than something you would play with – I think that this build is easy enough for a young child to put together. In fact, a child might have an easier time with the numerous small pieces included in this set. With my fat fingers, I was often fumbling around trying to put on the 1×1 studs and the slanted 1×1 pieces used for the Hulk’s hair.

Like Funko Pops, LEGO has designed each and every Brick Headz with a very specific look. When there are 10s or more of these out in the wild, you will quickly be able to identify them as LEGO Brick Headz. With that specific look comes a very specific build, and although I would normally jump next into the aesthetics of the set, I’m instead going to look at…

Rare or Hard to Find Pieces

It appears that every Brick Headz figure is going to build very similarly to it’s counterparts, which means lots of those elusive 1x2x2 bricks with studs on the one side. Everything I said about the Iron Man figure is true here again. While some may say the reused design is boring and ‘lazy,’ I really like it for the pieces it provides.

With only 93 pieces in the set, you can’t hope for much in way of exclusive or hard-to-find pieces, but after putting this set together I was pleasantly surprised. A number of the printed pieces made specifically for Hulk will only be available through this set, and the 1×1 flat stud used for the eyes are very hard to find and you get three in this set. The other piece that I find difficult to find is the 1x2x2 brick with the studs on the side of the pieces. These are great for use when building things for a LEGO city, if you hope to put banners or posters on a wall. These pieces are not rare per-se, but getting 14 of them in one small set is a huge bonus.

Aesthetically Pleasing

Leading off this review I mentioned that this Hulk figure is already proudly on display on my work desk, and it is a wonderful conversation starter. There is a lot of detail in this set for there only being 93 pieces, the most impressive of which is the hair. Hulk is an unruly figure, so the bright minds at LEGO needed to be able to represent that in the build. Using slanted 1×1 bricks, they accurately and subtly portrayed the look of ‘fury.’ Putting those pieces on sucked, but I’m really happy with the outcome.

Conclusion?

Buy. This is a no brainer. At 93 pieces for 9.99, it almost hits that 10 cents per pieces threshold every LEGO collector is trying to hit, and with 14 of those hard to find bricks included, the value just increases for myself.
