Could the Pokémon Let’s Go Titles Add Other Regions as DLC?

When watching the trailer for Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee, I began to wonder about the decision to focus on Generation 1 Pokémon. Personally, I really like the idea of doing this, and cannot wait to relive Pokémon Yellow as I play this game with my eight year old kid, who’s never experienced Generation 1! But what about subsequent generations? What about the people show grew up with Pokémon Silver and Pokémon Gold? I’ve had a crazy thought, and…it is crazy.

In my mind, developing a game to work hand-in-hand with Pokémon Go is really smart, but Pokémon Go is more than just Generation 1. How will Nintendo, Game Freak, and Niantic work with other generations when the Switch game is locked to the first. The easy answer is to say, “this is what it is” and leave it at that, but something tells me that if Pokémon Let’s Go is successful, we could possibly see other regions added to the game in the future.

The core development time was likely primarily focused on the game play elements that will be utilized, rather than the aesthetics of the Kanto region. While that is important, it’s not going to be the most expensive part of development. For the entire package, a justifiable full price will be charged. But after the initial leg work is done, what would stop the companies involved from releasing further expansions that would bring in the Johto region, Hoenn, and others?

This could be a brilliant move by Nintendo to extend the life-time of the Nintendo Switch game, while also keeping players attached to Pokémon Go on their smart phone devices. Since Pokémon within Pokémon Go span multiple generations and almost all of the franchises various regions, it only makes sense to continue the game as your avatar moves from Kanto to Johto, and beyond!

What do you think? Am I absurd? Let’s chat about it on Twitter!
