Time to Wake Up! Its Saturday Morning (RPG)

Once upon a time, kids could wake up and watch cartoons on Saturday Morning. I’m talking basic cable here: CBS, ABC, NBC, yes even FOX all had cartoons on Saturday mornings! I still remember getting up every Saturday to watch my toons. I could not miss them! Those days are long gone now, the networks no longer air cartoons on Saturdays, but I’m not the only one who remembers when they did. Enter Saturday Morning RPG for the Nintendo Switch: a love letter to those Saturday cartoons of old. Its also a really good RPG!

I miss old cartoons like G.I. Joe, the Transformers (the old ones, not this new stuff), Thundercats, He-man, and more. So Saturday Morning RPG for the Nintendo Switch really taps into my nostalgia for those cartoons. There is so many easter eggs in this game. Its just insane!

Saturday Morning RPG is more than just nostalgia though. It has its own original storyline(s), characters, environments, and oh yeah, one of heck of a battle system!

Saturday Morning RPG has a turn-based battle system that reminds me a bit of Paper Mario. The items you use in battle are a bit like Sticker Star but so much better. And there are elements of it that remind me of Thousand Year Door, such as timing button presses to defend against enemy attacks. There is no audience in front of you in battle, however there are often other enemies or bystanders on the sidelines of battle watching things go on.

This game is so very detailed. It isn’t just the jaw dropping amount of easter eggs in the game. Each place you visit is well drawn and will remind you of an old cartoon feel (and a bit of a Paper Mario feel too). The plotlines in this game are very Saturday morning material and a lot of fun.

Yes, if you grew up watching cartoons on Saturday Morning than you will really love the easter eggs in this game. If you didn’t grow up with that though (so sorry), I think you’ll still enjoy this game. The battle system is great in this game. There is such variety to it. And the plots are fun and while the first episode is pretty straight forward, the second one opens up a bit more and offers a lot of side quests. I can’t wait to see what future “episodes” have in store for me!

My review of Saturday Morning RPG isn’t ready yet, but the game is out today!! If you like rpgs at all, you should go ahead and buy this game. If you love rpgs and Saturday Morning cartoons, what are you waiting for?! I’ll try to have my review as soon as possible. Stay tuned to GamesReviews.com.
