Star Wars: Imperial Assault – Jabba’s Realm Expansion Overview
We’ve been playing a ton of Imperial Settlers lately, the miniatures board game set in the Star Wars universe. We’ve done a lot with both the core box and the Return to Hoth expansion, but lately we’ve also been diving into the Jabba’s Realm expansion.
With a ton of new miniatures and some great terrain pieces, let’s take a peak at this expansion, and let you know whether or not it’s worth picking up!
As we said in our Return to Hoth review , the expansions for Imperial Assault are just more of the same. And we say that in the best way possible. Jabba’s Realm brings more content to the Imperial Assault, albeit less than Return to Hoth which we previously looked at.
There are 18 new two sided terrain tiles to use, new cards, and sixteen new plastic miniatures. While one miniature definitely impressed, it was a bit disappointing to find out that if I wanted a plastic Jabba to add to my collection, I’d have to buy a separate Jabba character pack.
The reason why I loved Jabba’s realm so much – despite no Jabba figure – is that I’m partial to interior maps. With Return to Hoth, so much of what you get in the box is external environments, with a few tiles used to represent Echo Base.
For thematic purposes, I find the story works best when playing interior maps, so it is obvious why I am partial to the new campaign involving Jabba’s palace.
The detail on the new miniatures included in the box is phenomenal, but nothing matches that brand new, very large rancor miniature. The rancor requires some assembly to get it together – 5 pieces total – but that was very easy (no glue required)! This is an impressive miniature, and one that will dominate the board when it comes into play.
It gives Imperial Assault a grandiose feel, something I haven’t felt at all playing Return to Hoth, and something I had not really experienced until I brought out the AT-ST in the core box. Should you pick up the Jabba figure separately, you will find the Jabba’s realm campaign to be the most impressive to look at from scenario to scenario.
Like with our review of Return to Hoth, whether you pick this expansion up or not is really up to you. If you are really enjoying Imperial Assault and want to add more content to your game, I would highly recommend you check it out. We won’t spoil any of the campaign content here, but the storyline with this expansion is quite enjoyable (of what we have played so far). For Star Wars fans, this experience is a must play, and one we highly recommend.
