More Thoughts From Me Special Edition: Switch 2 Blows Me Away

We just saw the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. I was floored by this new system. I couldn’t believe what I saw. So I have to talk about it as much as I can. Here we gooooo!

Today we saw the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. I was so blown away by it. Though I want to say, I just found out that it’ll cost $699.99 CAD with Mario Kart World and $629.99 CAD without. Yeah, I won’t be able to get it at that price point, (Editor – Adam’s – Note added here) a concern I think might be felt my lots of people looking to upgrade. I get that new systems are expensive, but is this the right price point for what we are getting? Only time will tell!

Aside from that though, WOW. What an amazing Nintendo Direct. First of all, we have to talk about Mario Kart World!

I would have never guessed that Nintendo would do an open world Mario Kart game. The free roam mode looked incredible. The new race tracks looked great too. Mario Kart World impressed me a lot. This is next level Nintendo.

Speaking of next level, I was so impressed that the new system will be 4K and HD. The system will also be able to play games like Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. There will be a lot of third party support for this new system, including EA Sports and I’d say likely Microsoft too. We didn’t see the rumored Halo collection but I’m sure it’ll be on the system. I wonder if Indiana Jones will make it to Switch 2!! The sky seems to be the limit.

I was also amazed by Nintendo’s new Game Chat feature. I really loved what I saw with the built-in mike and being able to play with friends, even when you are playing a single player game. And it looked like Animal Crossing New Horizons will be able to use the mike too. Thats a game changer for New Horizons. Amazing.

There were other cool games, but the game, other than Mario Kart World, that blew my mind the most was the new 3D Donkey Kong game. I expected a new Mario game and instead we got a new 3D Donkey Kong game coming and it looks fantastic. I loved it. DK can destroy just about everything. Digging into the ground looked like a lot of fun.

Oh and I almost forgot: Nintendo Switch 2 Online will get GameCube games! No Animal Crossing Cube but you know it’ll likely appear on there sooner or later…

While the Switch 2 Direct was impressive overall, there were a couple of low moments. The Nintendo Switch 2 Tour game seemed like something that should come free with the system and instead will be something you have to pay for. The Drag X Drive game was also a low point. It was a very gimmicky weird looking game that seems like it’ll have limited appeal. Hopefully its not a high priced game. If its a cheap download game, it might do fine. I know they wanted to show off the mouse controls but I think they could’ve figured out something better.

Still the mouse controls look pretty cool. Hopefully, we’ll see a Mario Paint or some other creative game in the future that makes great use of it. Looks like Civilization will definitely use it well.

Overall, my mind was blown by this Direct. I think the system looks amazing. I definitely want one but I have no idea how I’d get one. sigh. Oh well. Maybe they’ll do a Switch Lite in the future.

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Oh my. Can you imagine a new Animal Crossing on this system?!
