More Thoughts From Me #219: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Spoilers
WARNING: If you haven’t finished Final Fantasy 7 Remake, do not read this article. There will be SPOILERS, especially for the ending of the game. I finished FF7 recently and I want to talk about the game. What did I think of it overall? What did I think of the ending?
I liked Final Fantasy 7 Remake a lot.
I just wanted to get that out of the way. I think its a great game. However…
Yes, there are some things I want to talk about. Here is another spoiler warning just in case. This is your last warning!
Still here?
Are you sure?
Ok, let’s get to it.
The game ends where I thought it would end: with the group leaving Midgar. However, how they got there was a bit different from the orignal. Instead of just deciding to leave Midgar, this time they went through a portal after Sephiroth, fought him, and then found themselves outside of town.
This was a pretty different ending to the Midgar section. Sephiroth is becoming the main threat in the game(s) a lot sooner than the orignal. Its a big change but in my opinion, it works and gives the group a stronger reason for leaving Midgar.
Oh and Zack is alive. That was a huge surprise. I wonder when/if the group will run into Zack. Will he become part of the group? Is he going to be another foe? Its too early to tell. It was epic reveal though.
Of course, if you hadn’t played the orignal FF7, you were probably wondering: who the heck is Zack? You really must have played the orignal game to kind of understand who Zack is. I’m not even going to attempt to explain him…
In any case, FF7 ends up where I thought it would. Yes in a different way and with some interesting reveals, but overall, FF7 Remake stayed true to the orignal. This remake expands on the PS1 classic. And while I did miss the traditional battle system some, I thought the new action based system was pretty cool! The game is absolutely a visual treat and the music is incredible.
That said, in the end, FF7R only feels like Part 1 of a series of games. You are left wanting more. I don’t regret playing FF7R. I loved it. However, I wish the next game was out now. Who knows how long we’ll have to wait for Part 2. And its likely it won’t be on the PS4…
Sooner or later, I want to go back to the orignal and play it again. I want to compare it with the new game and see exactly where the Remake added stuff. That should be a lot of fun.
For now though, I’m taking a break from Final Fantasy 7. I’m moving on to Final Fantasy 15. I’m playing it on the PS4 for the first time ever.
What did you think of Final Fantasy 7 Remake?
Next week: My thoughts so far on Final Fantasy 15.
More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I do wish the FF7 Remake was on Switch.
