How to Snap the Best Photo in New Pokémon Snap

Getting a good photo in New Pokémon Snap can be a trying experience. You might have been off for one second, or perhaps the Pokémon didn’t fit into the frame as perfectly as you would like. We have a few tips and tricks below to help you get the most out of your camera, and your NEO-ONE!

There are a few things you need to know about snapping a good photo. First, don’t expect to get all good photos on your first run. Not only will you unlock new routes and new areas the more you play a course, but the higher your level on any given course will make Pokémon in that area more comfortable with you, which means they will be more likely to stick around for that perfect shot, as opposed to running off into the bushes. So don’t get frustrated early on – things will get better and easier the more you play a course!

Photos are graded on two different scales – a score scale and a star scale. The star scale is pretty easy, actually. The more unique the photo, the more stars it is worth. A sitting Quagsire will net you 1 star, while a jumping Quagsire will net you 4 stars. It’s a pretty simple concept, so keep snapping because you never know when you might capture a rare behaviour.

Once you are awarded 1 – 4 stars, the numbering system takes over and give you a value – bronze, silver, gold or platinum / diamond. You are scored in a number of different areas, from size and direction, to pose, background, and whether or not other Pokémon are in the shot. This is a much more robust scoring system than the original Pokémon Snap, but taken to the next level in New Pokémon Snap with additional scoring options.

And that is all you really need to know. Get out there and start snapping – it’s time to fill out that Pokedex with platinum / diamond photos!
