Boot Hill Bounties Review
What do you get when you mix Earthbound and Wild Arms? You might get something like Boot Hill Bounties for the Nintendo Switch! But is this Wild West rpg any good? Here is our review of Boot Hill Bounties for the Nintendo Switch.
Boot Hill Bounties is a turn-based rpg set in the Wild West and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Its humor and some of its design will remind players of the rpg classic Earthbound. The Wild West setting will make you recall Wild Arms, though Boot Hill is totally different from that game.
All of the characters in Boot Hill Bounties have their own interesting backstories and fun personalities. Boot Hill takes its time setting up each of the characters and giving them plenty of cool character moments.
Story is very important in Boot Hill. The game may not take itself too seriously, humor is everywhere, but you will care about Boot Hill’s characters and story.
What about the combat though? Does Boot Hill Bounties have a fun combat system?
The answer is yes, especially if you’re a fan of turn-based rpgs. The battle system is first person, like Earthbound or early Dragon Quest. The enemies are very detailed and that keeps things interesting. Also the game provides some pretty unique combat options.
The Vantage hat system in this game is very good. Steamworld Heist should be jealous. Each of the hats in Boot Hill Bounties provide really interesting combat options. It worth your time to check out any new hat you get. And the hat theme fits the game so well.
The Wild West setting of Boot Hill Bounties makes this rpg one of the most unique on the Nintendo Switch. Ride horses, visit saloons, take on posses, and more. Also the main character’s dog may be the best character in the game! He can save your game wherever he is!
That all said, I do wish the game would give the player more hints as to what to do sometimes. It can be a little old school in its puzzles. The game’s menus could be more detailed. The graphics do not have that problem at all though.
Boot Hill is, at its heart, an SNES game but with much more detailed characters and backgrounds. This is a good looking game. It has nice music too.
Overall, Boot Hill Bounties is one of the best indie rpgs I’ve played. I love its setting, combat system, humor, story, graphics, and music. Any complaints I have about this game are minor. Old school rpgs fans are going to love Boot Hill Bounties!
Boot Hill Bounties gets a 9.5 out of 10.
