Abdallah Plays with the Nintendo Labo Robot Kit
The Roffel home has become consumed by Nintendo Labo, but as we don’t have unlimited resources, we opted to go with the Variety Kit which we thought was a better choice for our younger children. Friend of the website, Abdallah, has been rocking out the Robot Kit for a number of days now, and has been posting some great video online showcasing the game in action, as well as how to build the kit itself.
The kit building time seems to be around 4-5 hours, although Abdallah did complete his within roughly three and a half. Once together, the kit seems pretty sturdy, and commentary from many YouTubers is that the cardboard of all the Labo kits is much more durable then what people thought. Watching Abdallah get into the kit as a full grown adult, however, didn’t look like something I would want to try anytime soon. It is obvious that players will have to take the time to make sure the length of the strings for the arms and the legs are perfect, to better simulate a robot moving. If the strings are too loose, you won’t get that great feedback as you pull the strings and move your arms. It if it is too tight, you risk breaking the strings and ruining the kit – although replacement parts are available via Nintendo, starting at 2.99.
After watching hours of vide from Abdallah (which you can see embedded around this page), I was hoping for a bit more from the Robot Kit, although there still is plenty to play. I’m just wondering how long that allure would last. Even my own kids, who were originally very excited for the robot, wondered if it was worth the investment. And he is 8! After people spend more time with it, I’m sure we will have a better idea, but our recommendation – especially for younger kids – is to go with the variety kit! That being said, I’ve heard that having two Robot Kits is where the real fun begins!
I do like that the Robot Kit does track your calories, and according to Abdallah in his videos, this game is actually a pretty good workout! Want more Robot Kit videos? Feel free to check out all Abdallah’s page by clicking on his banner below, and subscribe to his YouTube!
