There are more than two billion gamers worldwide. It means that one quarter of the world’s population plays a video game on a regular basis. That is, from afar, the largest group regarding all entertainment activities. Why is it so? Let us take a closer look at the reasons that explain why people love to ply games.
People want to win
Who hasn’t dreamed of saving a princess (or a prince in this day and age), or to be the last one standing? The answer is: Not many. It is in our human nature to want to win. Even those that have submissive personalities feel like they are winning, when they find a master, as they believe he/she needs them more than the reverse. But winning in our everyday life is not so easy, which is why so many people choose to do so through video games.
But winning is also a means to accumulate. It can be looking to improve a status, but also gain money. However, there is no doubt that they are part of it, as much as any other difficulties life throws at us, every day. Playing games is a way for men and women to let go of the various problems that affect their lives, or even more simply, the monotony that sometimes feel unbearable to them.
The intensity of gaming makes life feel fuller, while playing. One forgets that things are not going his way or that there are difficulties looming ahead. When you are playing as a giant or as a semi-God, you almost feel like you could do anything. In real-life, it doesn’t take much for anyone to be brought back down to reality.
People want to satisfy their Basic Needs
To be satisfied, is another important facet to gamers. That is why, there are so many different games. As in real-life, the desires of people are quite different from one to another. And sometimes, they are not so literal. In other words, playing a video game where you have to kill your opponents doesn’t mean that your need is to draw blood. But there can be no doubt that in some way, you are looking to climb the social ladder, all the way to the top, no matter what your job is or how much money you make.
To be satisfied does help, when you come back to the real world. It provides you a sentiment of satiety that will last a while, until you head back into the virtual world and fill it again. Or better yet, that you find your satisfaction in your simple day-to-day life. One way or another, that satisfaction factor is a good thing for gamers.
