Is This The Best Expansion Ever?

In 2015 fans have taken down The Taken King Oryx in the Throne World, and now it’s time to go up against his sister, the Hive trickster Savathun in The Witch Queen Destiny 2.

The new expansion has all the awesome Destiny action we’ve come to expect, but there are even more new things to explore and experience. On top of tying up all the story threads from the past, Bungie is also laying the groundwork for the most expansive campaign this game has ever had.

Destiny 2 Witch Queen is Bungie’s most ambitious story campaign to date. Its roots go back all the way to the first game. The first time players were introduced to the Hive Queen was back in the Taken King expansion for Destiny 1.

Savathun may be the most ferocious of the siblings. She is the reason why Titan is full of Hive minions. She’s responsible for orchestrating the murder of Kayde and so on. In this expansion, however, the confrontation between her and the Guardians is open. No more hiding behind pawns. What adds to the overall intensity of the ongoing events in this expansion is the place. Guardians are once more taking the fight to the Savathun’s home – the Throne World. This is where the Witch Queen raid takes place.

Players will get to shoot stuff as much as they want, of course. But even that core experience has been greatly refreshed. Now, the enemies also pose the power of the Light, just like the Guardians themselves. We can only guess what players will have to face in the new addition to the Destiny 2 Raids.

For the first time in a long time, players will go up against enemies that are equal in power to them. Hive Guardians are not to be messed with. They share the same classes as normal Guardians, which means you’ll be up against Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters of all kinds. You also get to kill their ghosts which is a strangely satisfying little detail. Luckily, players get a few new toys of their own.

Apart from the Witch Queen armor and a few new guns, players get to use a new type of weapon – glaives. At first, we thought it was a new kind of melee weapon, but it is so much more than that! This weapon type allows players to shoot it, use it as a shield and smash enemies in melee!

When All Parts Come Together Nicely

But there’s more – players can customize it using the all-new weapon crafting system! The Void element classes have been redesigned from scratch. And those who want a little more challenge, the entire campaign is available at Legendary difficulty! It scales depending on the number of friends you play with and offers better rewards in the form of Destiny 2 exotic armor and other gear items!

In terms of the story itself, we can see a lot of YouTubers and regular gamers all share the same impression – this is the best story in the game! It all begins from how the story is structured this time around. It also ties into the Throne World itself – it’s a mystical place full of illusions and deceit. So, in order to progress through the campaign, players will have to do a lot of investigation and complete various puzzles. In this way, the campaign is less linear than previous ones. Players are welcome to tackle the tasks at hand in any order and draw their own conclusions.

Even compared to the Taken King campaign, which a lot of long-term Destiny fans compare to, Witch queen is miles better Destiny 2 PvE campaign. In fact, the story of the expansion is more than just about the Witch Queen herself. There are enough compelling story moments in the campaign to hook fans into the action and make this whole endeavor matter. This applies to newer fans as well! The campaign also leverages a lot of deep lore of the franchise. Knowing that deep lore will let you get way more out of experiencing the new expansion.

You Cannot Miss This!

Moving on to gameplay once again, that Legendary difficulty is a must. It could take you about 10 hours to complete, on average. Having said that, new players might struggle with it if they don’t have fully fleshed out sub-class builds and some important exotics to help them along the way. But that’s what the Destiny 2 boost services are for. And newer players should really consider using them and play the campaign at a higher difficulty.

Because as good as the campaign is, playing it on a higher level will make it great. If you want the true experience, Legendary is recommended to be the difficulty of choice. Just grab a couple of your friends and enjoy the ride.

If you want to get into this franchise, it is recommended that you take your time and explore more of what game has to offer, instead of jumping headlong into the expansion.
