Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a Relaxation Dream

There are few video games on the market that can really give you a strong feeling of relaxation, but farming simulation and that ilk of game often rise to the top and become the ultimate relaxation experience. Until Friday, that game over the last year or two has been Stardew Valley, the perfect way to blow off 30 minutes of my day while relaxing, not really worrying to much about what’s going on outside of the game, or within the game for that matter. Then Friday happened, and Animal Crossing release, and I have a new favourite relaxation game!

Your time in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is limiting in some ways, each day. You’ll only have so much fruit to pick before there isn’t any left (outside of traveling to new islands, which is still limited by Nook Miles). There are only so many fossil locations to dig up, and so many rocks to hit with your shovel. While fish are endless, your chances of catching something you either a) don’t have yet; or b) can be sold for major bells, is pretty limited as well. I think Nintendo limited your time with the game on purpose – to make it as relaxing as possible.

It’s funny to watch people freak out online; it is quite obvious that Nintendo built this game to be played in a specific way, and yet there are people who haven’t realized this yet. I’ve seen various iterations of the phrase, “This game is so boring.” It’s not, you are just playing it wrong.

I’ve been enjoying my time with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, playing a few hours each day, focusing first on the tasks that push the ‘story’ forward, and then just getting extra Bells to pay down my loans, and purchase new DIY items and household items. It’s so great – buy what you want, build what you want, collect what you want. At. Your. Own. Pace.

We have tons of great Animal Crossing: New Horizons content coming soon, so keep it with GamesReviews.com!
