More Thoughts From Me Special Edition: What A Direct!
Tonight we had a Nintendo Direct. And it started off…not too good actually. I was wondering why they were even having a Nintendo Direct. Then things started to happen. Let’s talk about it!
When tonight’s Nintendo Direct started…well I wasn’t impressed. Sure Pikmin 4 looked neat. And Bayonetta spinoff looked good. But it was just like “Why Nintendo? Why are we doing this?” Oh ye of little faith right?
The Nintendo Direct started to turn around when a demo for Octopath Traveler 2 was announced. And then a demo for Sea of Stars! Both demos coming tonight. Already I’m thinking “Oh my god.” But…then…something…magicial happened…
Nintendo announced Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games for their Nintendo Switch Online services!!! WHAT!
Yes, fans had been wanting it. We thought it was possible but it seemed unlikely at this point. Oh and the first games are coming TONIGHT.
So wait. Nintendo stealth drops a demo for Octopath Traveler 2 and Sea of Stars. Thats already amazing. Plus Kirby Return to Dreamland is getting a demo tonight too! Next we find out that Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games are coming tonight. I kept thinking they’d be raising the price of the service too but nope! Same price!
Thats not all though.
The original METROID PRIME is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Remastered graphics. Its coming tonight to the Switch! WHAT?! WHAT?! My brain is broken now. I’m not even sure what I’m watching. Is this real? Is this fantasy?
If that wasn’t enough, Nintendo also reveals that THERES GOING TO BE A NEW FANTASY LIFE GAME. OH MY GOD. I loved the first one on the 3DS. My dad and I played it. It was just wonderful. The new one looks very good.
There were other cool announcements too, but those are the ones that stand out.
Of course we also got an amazing trailer for Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It was jaw dropping. I need to play that game.
Advance Wars also finally has a release date! So much happened here. Whew.
Overall, I loved this Direct. So many good things were announced.
Yes, there were some minor disappointments. Square Enix only showed Octopath Traveler 2 with no other announcements. There was no sign of a new Mario game in this Direct either. No Animal Crossing, though I didn’t expect it. Throwing all that aside though, it was a fantastic Nintendo Direct. The Gameboy and Gameboy Advance announcements alone might this Direct a winner. Add to that demos for three awesome upcoming games and Metroid Prime. The best stuff is coming out TONIGHT. Oh the poor Nintendo eshop.
What did you think of the Direct? What was your favorite announcement?
More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I need those Gameboy games NOW.
