Kids Have Fun While Learning Geography with the Best Geography Trivia Games

My daughter has a school geography bee that will be taking place in a couple of months and it’s all she’s been talking about recently. In order to commend her excitement for learning and help her prepare, I started looking for fun tools (like trivia games) we could use together to help her learn about geography both in the United States and around the world.

The apps that I’ve included below are ones that we’ve been using non-stop over the past few weeks and ones that she quickly grew incredibly fond of. To her, it’s more like playing games than anything else. I’m not even sure if she knows she’s learning. Regardless, she’s been having such a blast using them that I wanted to give them a quick review so other parents with children interested in learning geography will have an excellent place to start!

World Geography – Rating: 4.7, Downloads: 5M

World Geography has over 6000 geographic trivia questions that span 400 different countries, regions, and islands, so your child can easily work their way up to a high level of in-depth, up-to-date geographic knowledge. My daughter really enjoys this app for its diversity of facts and knowledge. What’s nice is that there are 4 difficulty settings so that you can use ensure your child is being challenged enough to keep them engaged as they play.

For beginners, keep in mind that the amount of geographic information on the screen may appear daunting at first. As I said, the app contains a lot of information. Personally, we find this to be an asset, but if your child is easily overwhelmed, this may not be the case.

Pros: 6,000 questions, 400 countries covered, 4 difficulty settings

Cons: Amount of information can be overwhelming

Overall: Learn loads about geography regardless of your level, just know that the amount of information may appear overwhelming to beginners

Geography Quiz Game – Rating: 4.0, Downloads: 1M

Geography Quiz Game contains both the United States and global geography, so it’s really good for learning geography domestically and internationally. My daughter loves being able to learn country borders, national flags, official languages, landmarks, and monuments because it provides an assortment of interesting facts to remember. Plus, she’s able to choose to take quizzes or simply look at images to figure out their correct answer(s).

However, if you’re interested in finding a game that only contains geography content and nothing else, then Geography Quiz Game may not be your first choice. Using this app, you will also be learning cultural and topographical facts.

Pros: US & global geography, learn about an assortment of topics (e.g. languages, landmarks, flags)

Cons: Not just geography
Overall: If you want a fuller, more well-rounded understanding of different countries (and not just where they are located) then this is the app for you

Seterra Geography – Rating: 4.7, Downloads: 100K

Seterra Geography lets you switch between 5 different languages to hear question pronunciations in English, German, Spanish and Swedish. This is great if you’re not a native speaker or if you’re interested in learning a few words in another language. My daughter loves getting to practice her basic Spanish by hearing and repeating words. Plus, you can also zoom in and out of maps in order to see the clear outlines of city and country boundaries.

I discovered this game last by sheer coincidence while I was browsing the web for geography learning tips. I happened upon a website with a top 10 list of geography quiz apps for kids and thought I’d explore it.

Best 10 Geography Trivia Games

While my daughter hasn’t been using this app quite as long as the other two, she seems to really love it and it’s usually the first one she wants to try when I tell her it’s geography game time.

Something you may want to consider is that Seterra Geography tends to work slightly faster on your computer rather than on your mobile device. This can be slightly inconvenient when you want to access the app and you’re away from home, so you’ll have to determine how much this means to you.

Pros: Learn languages, hear questions in your language, zoom in on maps

Cons: App works a bit slower than the desktop version
Overall: So long as you don’t mind waiting for the app to load, you can access language and geography practice simultaneously

Conclusion

I don’t predict my daughter will want to stop using these apps, even after the geography bee is over – she really has been loving them that much. If you’ve been looking for a geography practice app for your kids, or if you are just looking for an educational way for them to keep busy, these apps are definitely worth looking at.
