Five of the most popular roulette games
Online casinos have blossomed over the past decade and are now incredibly popular. The variety of games offered by them blows bricks and mortar casinos out of the water, while they still maintain that face-to-face element through live casinos.
One of the most popular of these is roulette, but it wasn’t even meant to be that way. Roulette, as we know and love it, was invented by accident when Frenchman Blaise Pascal was looking for a way to recreate perpetual motion in 1655.
Since then, the game has grown and blossomed and taken on life in ways Pascal would never have thought possible. To give you a little insight into how massive the gambling industry is, in Macao alone, it generated $167 million in revenue throughout 2019.
So with that little bit of background information, let’s explore five of the most popular roulette games on the market.
European or American roulette
European is your standard roulette game with 37 pockets on the wheel: numbers 1-36 as well as a single 0. American roulette is slightly different, and it works out as better odds for the casino while providing the same payout as European roulette.
That’s because American roulette has 38 pockets on the wheel, the numbers 1-36 but it has an extra pocket – 00. The betting options and the amounts paid out are the same for both types of roulette, but your odds of winning are lower on American.
French roulette
Not content with having European roulette, the French invented a different type. This game is basically the same as European roulette but has two extra rules: La Partage and En prison. La Partage gives you half your bet back if you land in the 0, if you’re placing an even money bet. En Prison lets you hold your stake for the next spin. Winners get their stake returned to them, loses have it forfeited.
Progressive roulette
Progressive roulettes are often found at online casinos and they allow players to play for a much larger prize. This is because a portion of bets placed go towards the progressive jackpot, and players who trigger that jackpot can stand to win big! Each game will have different rules about triggering the jackpot, so make sure you check before you play.
Pinball roulette
Have you ever wanted to combine the 80s favourite game with a distinctively modern twist? Pinball roulette lets you have all the fun of the fair while playing for real money! In this version, you release the ball and it passes through a series of pins and bumpers before resting on one of the pockets at the bottom – these pockets are the same as those used in European roulette.
Live roulette
Live roulette brings the convenience of the online casino to the buzz of the real world. These games are played with proper croupiers for real money and are just a whole lot more fun to play than those in the digital landscape.
Live roulette is often broadcast straight from bricks and mortar casinos as well, so you really can get the best of both worlds.
