What We Want on the Nintendo Switch
Everyone puts together a Christmas Wish list, so it’s not crazy for us to put together our own “Switch List.” This will be a list of the things we will want to see on the Nintendo Switch, both in hardware and software. Lets dive in!
Games, Games, and More Games
The above image should show you exactly what the staff from GamesReviews.com wants to see in the Switch: Games! I don’t care if they are ports from the Xbox One and PS4 or brand new title, within the first few months of the Switch launching, we need tons of games. Many games are rumored – a 3D Mario title, a Zelda game that is bound to NOT be a release title, and the shown, although not confirmed, port of Bethesda’s open world masterpiece, Skyrim. However, rumored games are not guaranteed games, so step one is firming up some type of launch plan.
Without games, the Switch is doomed to failure, going the way of the Wii U. With a good lineup, however, and I think Nintendo could get a lot of current fans to upgrade, establish new fans, and even bring back some of the old ones. The games they decide to launch don’t need to be new, however. There is a backlog of stellar GameCube games that never made it to the Wii U; give me Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door on the Switch, and I’ll buy it day 1 even if there isn’t anything else. That, and Super Mario Sunshine. They are just ports, yes, but I’m OK with that as long as the company has something else new coming down the pipe.
Good Peripherals
From all the demos and videos we have seen, the controls on the left and right of the Switch screen can be taken off and used as standalone controllers. I would like to see companies experiment with these controllers and release some outstanding third party controllers. If priced correctly, big budget games – such as Breath of the Wild – should have their own specific controllers. I understand that no one wants a drawer full of peripherals, but if used sparingly, I think they could be a great edition to the system.
Lots of Storage
If Nintendo wants users to go digital, we need a system with a good amount of built in storage. The minimal storage on the Wii U was never going to be enough – and it isn’t enough. Yes, you can use secondary storage, but no average user should have to go down this route. Make it right Nintendo, and give us ample storage in the Switch.
Universal Accounts
If I buy it, I own it Nintendo! Universal accounts are long overdue for Nintendo – both its competitors have been using them for a long time now – and it’s time for them to get with the program. I want my purchases tied to my NNID, not the system they are on. With so many digital games to my name, I’m always worried I’m one console failure away from losing $100s of content.
