The Legend of Zelda 35th Anniversary Coming Up Soon

February 21st is not that far away, but it will mark the 35th anniversary of one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. When Mario hit the same milestone, fans were treated to new games – notably the All-star collection with Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy – tons of incredible merchandise from Puma, LEVI’s, and more, and of course, exclusive items that could be earned by beating challenges, or purchased in the Nintendo store. It was an incredible year celebrating Mario, and here is hoping Zelda is just as big. So without further ado, here are a few things we would love to see during The Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary!

The Legend of Zelda All-Stars Collection

Give me an All-stars collection, Nintendo. Fans have said we won’t get it since Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask were both re-launched on the Nintendo 3DS, but the same can also be said for Super Mario 64, although that was re-launched on the DS instead of the 3DS. Still, a collection of some of the best Zelda games would be fantastic, and I’m not about to get picky. Whether it’s a combination of Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Wind Waker, or whether they bundle Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword together. Either way, getting these titles available on the Nintendo Switch would be outstanding, and an easy purchase for me.

Hopefully, Nintendo doesn’t take the same approach it took with the Mario collection, and make it a limited time only purchase. While it is an easy day-1 purchase for myself, I feel bad thinking about folks that get a Switch long after these collections launched and cannot get access to them at retail.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

While I’m incredibly hopeful that this game will launch in 2021, I’m not sure we are yet far enough removed from the first title (2017) to warrant the next. While 4 years is a long time, I seem to remember the going numbering being 5 years, which makes a whole lot more sense in my opinion. While that could have just been speculation from media outlets, Breath of the Wild 2 in 2021 seems like a longshot. If it does launch, I’d be looking closer to the holiday season.

More Missions to Complete

With Mario’s anniversary, Club Nintendo sort of made a comeback with awesome missions fans could complete in order to obtain a special set of pins from Nintendo. The pins are rolling out in two waves – one around the launch of the All-Stars collection, and one around the launch of Super Mario 3D World. Having similar fun activities around the anniversary for Zelda would be great fun.

There are probably half a dozen other really cool things Nintendo could do for this special occasion, including new toys, new merchandise, and so much more. But if they could deliver on 2 of the 3 things mentioned above, it’s going to be a great year!
