More Thoughts From Me #156: The Boy Who Would Be Ni No Kuni King
Briefly, I had the PS Now service on the Playstation 4. I got to check out Ni No Kuni (PS3) through it and liked it alot. However, I was unsure if I’d like Ni No Kuni 2. No turn-based combat? ugh. Then I saw the game for $20 at Walmart and couldn’t resist it. Now that I’ve played it, I can tell you what I think of it. Spoiler: its awesome!
Ni No Kuni 2 is better than the first game. Yeah, yeah, I know a lot of people say they think the first one is better. I disagree.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked the first game a lot. The turn-based battles rocked and the graphics were very good.
The second game has better graphics, a far more interesting story, cooler characters, and dare I say it…the battle system is rocks more than the first games. Yes, Ni No Kuni 2 has an action battle system but its so much more fun. There are so many options in the battles, plus those little guys that help you out and your awesome traveling companions.
Ni No Kuni 2’s world is so much bigger and better. The world map is fantastic, the towns are jaw dropping, and I haven’t even mentioned the Kingdom building or the army battles!!
In this second game, the main character is a young king who wants to create a new kingdom after losing his old one. So you literally place new buildings down and recruit people to live and work in your kingdom! This whole kingdom building mini-game reminds me a lot of the Dark Cloud series. Wait. Level 5, creator of Ni No Kuni, created that series too!
And then there are army battles were you take a bunch of soldiers into battle and order them to attack and also throw down some cool special abilities during the battles too. These battles are a lot of fun, though do get harder as you progress in the game.
Ni No Kuni 2 is packed with awesome stuff. I’m not sure why people think the first game is better. Ya, the first one is really good. But Ni No Kuni 2 is better looking and has tons more awesome stuff to do.
If you love rpgs, then you must get this game. And if you can find it on sale like I did, then you’ll feel incredibly lucky!
Have you played Ni No Kuni 2? What is your favorite thing about this game?
Next week: The Dreams beta NDA is over! What does that mean?! That means I can tell you that I’ve been playing the Dreams PS4 beta and that I can share with you what I’ve been doing in the beta. What is Dreams like? How well does the beta play? Have I created anything? I’ll talk about all that next week!
More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Poor Ni No Kuni 2. I’m playing Kingdom Hearts 3 now.
